I have a problem with my 2006 idling close to 2000 RPM when it is cold. The primary reason is that when it starts there is no oil in the bearings or cam assemblies for a few seconds. I decided to fix this problem last winter and am just now finding time to document it for others who may be interested.
My solution was to make the water temperature sensor seem to read in the range of 140F for up to 3 minutes and then revert to the actual temperature. The computer sees this temperature and reduces the idle speed. A switch was included so this feature would not be actuated in the summer but I have just left it on all the time. The drawback of this is that it may start a little rough and you generally can't accelerate significantly for the first 5-10 seconds in cold weather.
Electronic parts cost approximately $8 and the connectors, switch, and case cost another $11. I had a piece of prototype board so that was not a cost for me. The attached circuit, parts list, and assembly picture show the details. The circuit is connected in parallel to the temperature sensor through pins 21 and 28 on connector E4 that is the top connector of those located under the glove box. I connected to 12 volt power where the rear view mirror is connected in the driver side kick panel and the switch is located in one of the switch blanks to the left of the steering wheel. If anyone has any questions on the implementation let me know but it is pretty straight forward.
