did you buy that 4runner in AK? we're moving up to anchorage this summer with the usaf and will be getting my wife a sequoia, armada, yukon or yukon xl. is there a much larger destination fee for AK? on coporate websites, when you enter AK zipcodes, pricing still comes up the same. thanks!

Yes, I bought my 4R in Fairbanks. You can still get a good deal in AK, but there is the additional cost of "winterization" i.e. block heater, oil pan heater, battery heater, etc. A lot of people go ahead and get the autostart, and heated seats too. Yet, the cold temperatures are really not too bad in Anchorage (but I am toughened up a bit from Fairbanks winters).

Once you get here treat yourself a drive through Hatcher Pass.

thanks for the reply. yeah, i'm not worried about winters in anchorage, they're nothing compared to Fairbanks. so without all the extreme cold add ons, which i shouldn't need given anchorage weather, buying a new truck up there shouldn't be more expensive then in the continental us?

I would go ahead and get the add-ons for winterization: block, oil pan, and battery heaters. One day you will need them--all it takes is one trip to Fairbanks in the winter and you will wish you had them.

i'm not quite sure i'll venture up there in the winter, i've been up there in the summer and it is beautiful, but -20, -40 whether isn't my sort of thing. do you think they're needed for anchorage? i didn't think it got cold enough for those up there. thanks again!

i just called the toyota dealer in anchorage to ask them about destination charges and they are similar to continental us charges. she did suggest the engine block heater and battery warmer if you plan on parking outside which i may be doing since my truck will have a lift and cargo basket on it and most likely won't fit in my garage.

Congrats to you, I love the gold! Quick question about your Cross Terrains, how is the ride. Is it smooth? I have been thinking about going to those but don't wanbt anything to hard and truck feeling. Just curious how they feel. Thanks!

Very smooth, the Cross Terrains are an excellent tire--you'll like 'em.
