I just applied for a position at one of the VA medical centers here and holy crap- I single handedly took out a small forest turning in my resume and all the other paperwork. I suppose in the end it will be worth it, but what a pain in the butt. You would think that having information on your resume would be sufficient, but you end up saying the same thing on three different forms. Anyways, I sure hope I can land it. More money so I can do some stuff to my Runner.

Thank you. It's nice cause my time in the military will bump me up a little on the accrual of vacation and stuff so I won't have to start at the bottom.

Being a vet will also give you preference points in the application process. You will also be able to apply your military time towards your retirement as well. Once again, good luck.

Good luck! I was planning on applying to VA Medical Centers when I graduate this summer. If I land a job I may end up creating plenty of work for you since I insist on perfectly operating x-ray equipment! And maybe sometimes I'm the reason why it doesn't work perfectly :hiding:

Well, good luck to you also. And, if it wasn't for staff screwing stuff up we wouldn't need half of the guys in the shop. Three times just last week I "fixed" broken equipment by plugging it in.
 
So I got a letter today stating that my application was under review. Not great news yet, but something. At least the "You are not qualified" box wasn't checked. I'm hoping that the fact that it's in South Dakota kept too many people from applying. I know that was a big problem at the Hospital I'm at now. I just wish that I had some kind of idea about what I'm up against. This is the first time in my life that I am trying to get a job where I didn't already know the boss or have some kind of hook up. I'm going crazy thinking about it, although I'm really trying not to think about it.:ybrick:
 
I applied for a job with the EPA. The job posting closed on December 28th. I've made it through the first round of resume cuts but my status for both pay grades says "Eligible - Referred to Selecting Officer for review". This position is for a single employee that can work at a list of locations, so I'm sure they have received applications for it from around the nation.

Don't sweat the waiting. Government hiring can take a long time. Glad to hear you have an interview!

Getting to the point of an actual interview with any federal agency is a milestone - good luck and let us know how it turns out.

The announcement said that they wanted to have someone hired within 60 days, so at least I have a time frame.

I'm not sure whether I should sport a suit or just a tie. What do you guys think? Everyone else I've talked to is split about 50/50.
 
You're a Biomed Eq Tech. Dress up like one. :D Wear suit & tie (again as if you were the president). Remember, this is the Feds not some lame Toyota company. :lmao:

First of all, I don't quite have the same budget. Second, I don't even own a suit so I don't really want to go buy one so I can wear it once. The last guy that wore a suit to the interview in our shop was told that he was way overdressed. I'm thinking I might pass on the suit. They wear jeans for work up there so I'm sure that a tie will suffice.

What they wear at work is not the same as what you should wear to the interview. If you really want the job, I suggest you go to JC Penny or Sears, and at least get a $100 suit and wear it. This is your chance to make a first impression in person. I can tell you, if someone showed up in my office for an interview dressed casual, that would be an automatic strike against them. FYI, I am in management in a federal agency, ....., so just trying to help you out. Good luck.
