Feeling Low !

Hello all ,I am a recent proud new owner of a 2008 limited .my question is that these trucks seem to sit quite a bit lower than its 3rd gen predecessor .I recently purchased a new set of springs eibach/toytec #620's and some rear superflex rcc2.0 to pair with the bilstiens that are on the truck. currently the bilstiens are paired with a stock spring clipped up on the #4 clip and its yielding roughly 2" of lift ,with a fender to hub center measurement of only 20.5.But it just doesn't look that lifted ! and to boot my 3rd gen sat real close to this height with no lift at all .is it possible to get my 4th gen to sit at a target 23" fender to hub measurement without too extreme of angles in the front suspension components (cv's,uca's) or am i dreaming and need to pair this with a body lift as well ? any input from those who have already been down this road is appreciated .i was going to put my bilstiens on the #2 clip from the bottom with the#620 springs and see where i end up height/angle wise, does this sound OK for those running this set-up ? If anyone has a good link with pics for changing springs on the 08 "the do's and don'ts " i just haven't found a lot out there .i know for the rear there are some abs lines ,parking brake cable mounts that should be disconnected before cycling the suspension far enough to take the spring out,as i don't want to trip any sensors or break any cables or wires .Thanks i'm just doing my homework before diving in,so i can really start enjoying this truck !

But it just doesn't look that lifted !

Well, I suppose this is all a matter of subjective opinion, but I am running Toytec Ultimate coil-overs with Superflex springs in the rear and it "looks" extremely lifted to me. I do not recall what my exact measurements are, but I'm pretty damned happy with it. I have pulled up next to my neighbor's 3rd Gen and I definitely sit higher, but again, this is all subjective. One thing I do know, is I like the 4th gen look WAY more and prefer the power. So, my lift is an added bonus.

Correct on the subjective opinion ,Not trying to put anyone on the defense .I am just starting dialogue to the effect of how much lift is to be expected also what clip setting for a spring combo such as mine for my personal knowledge on some up and coming changes ? also just pointing out the fact that the 4th gens defiantly have more rake than the earlier years as well as the newer models ! like i stated i'm a proud owner .so with this being said ,I really like the way your truck sits and thats what i would like mine to end up like. great choice ! here are some shots of my truck in stock form, then with bilstiens clipped up to setting #4 roughly 2" inch lift in front ,and my buddies stock 2014 for comparison .

You are running a steel bumper and winch. That makes a huge difference. I would go up two notches. Most of us running winches and heavy bumpers use atleast a 650# spring, many use 700# springs.

Thanks ! that's kind of the info i need . the bumper was already on there when i bought the truck and yes it looks heavy . i don't dislike it, but if i had the choice i really like the lines of my CBI hybrid thats on my 3rd gen ,and not super heavy . 10-4 on needing the heavier springs to compensate, change is in the mix.

I don't know if he can go up from where he is on bilsteins. You will need coil overs. Luckily, you can buy the toy text bilsteins add on for like 600. That's what I did.

OK, your Runner is an '08. How many miles are on it? Mine had 97k on it when I put my first spacer kit on it and my OEM springs were sagging big time. You already have Superflexes on the way which will get that ass up. Just order some OME 885's or 886's (depending on your bumper/winch weight) and get the height that you desire.

How about an update?

Rockmuncher and others ,Thanks for the nudge .For all that responded I appreciate all your input ! i am really getting worse about following up on things these days .Well as far as an update, i was able to get my coils put on giving my 4th gen the "cool" Toyota 4runner stance i was after . With a little help from the staff at toytec i was able to get the right info and parts to put my truck right where i wanted it. And the first time around.Unlike my 3 gen where i ended up changing my suspension three different times till i finally got the truck where i wanted it . This truck already was equipped with a set of bilstien 5100's that were set on the top 2.5 clip setting paired with a stock spring up front and stock springs in the back. This was netting barely a 2.0 inch lift and in my opinion didn't look like it had much of a lift at all, part of this due to the added weight in front (iron bull plate bumper & warn winch)these mods were on the truck when i purchased it from a buddy ,as we built our trucks at the same time (my 3rd gen his 4th gen)which later i ended up buying the truck from him .he felt that he didn't want to go to far with his lift and just did the shocks ,so i simply enhanced what was already there, added a set of eibach/toytec #620lb coil in front paired with a 1/2 inch spacer on the 5100's clipped up to the 1.75" clip to help compensate for front end weight. If i had a stock bumper on i would run the .85" setting with a 1/2" spacer ,per toytecs over the phone recommendations for a 3/2 lift with this spring/shock combo .On the back i put on a set of Icon springs (due to the fact that toytec was out of the superflex2.0)in retrospect i am glad they set me up with the Icons as they really provides a great ride .still maintaining excellent road mannerism with the truck feeling just a little stiffer than say stock , but giving relatively the same driver feedback of a nice and planted mildly lifted truck. I am super pleased ! I will post the only picture of my set-up to date just so you can get an idea of the outcome . more photos when i get a chance . Big shout out to Toytec and staff for their supplied hardware. this time i chickened out and enjoyed my day off ,nursed some more recent sports injuries (super tired of these by the way ),had a beer at home and did light duty stuff aka "the yard" while i had someone do the spring install work for me ,which all said and done made for a good day . SoCal Suspension here in san diego gets a big shout out for a great experience and price point as well, out of all the shops i have dealt with over the years this was by far the easiest no bullshit straight forward experience i have had to date.Im the kind of guy that would rather just do it myself especially if the price or people are ridiculous or its just not convenient ,this was neither . Enjoy my crappy photos ,let me know what ya think ?

One more thing i would like to add about a good experience .SoCal suspension were honest to work with ,straight shooters if you may .They gave me all my oem stuff back without asking , No Missing valued Items .You know how it is sometimes when you get work done and somehow key parts removed come up missing ? It can really turn a good thing bad .

Thanks man . not really trying to go over the top just want it to its potential and capable ,as i have other weaponry for serious abuse in the dirt .if you notice the picture of my friends 5th gen 2014 it sits higher than the 08 does in stock form. This is a feature similar to the 99 came factory equipped with ,like how it had taller coils than all other years on the 3rd gen from the factory .why they change it up every so often ,who knows ? no the coupe is not mine ,but it sure looks cool though ,eh ?

That's a solid game plan...I hate some 4Runners that are sooo jacked up...they look ridiculous.

How does your friend iike his 2014?

The 2014 is a great truck as well !i cant speak on his behalf on every aspect of it but i'm pretty sure he's digging it.

RubberToe:

I meant to ask you, I've spent time in Southern California and that lake sure looks familiar...where is it? Can you off road there?

How about an update?

Here's a bit of an update i thought you would enjoy ,Loving the ride so far and T4Runner was our transportation for our yearly vacation to the jet ski World Finals in Lake Havasu ,Az . All in all a great vacation and it was nice travel in the 4runner. i also towed my Teryx sand car with us as well ( 1500 lbs car plus trailer & gear ) if i was a betting man i would say right around 3000 lbs ,4runner did fine on the flats with around 13.5 MPG on average while towing, though it could of use some more ponies when we hit the grade to climb over our local mountains .No manual overdrive switch on the 08 limited i guess ? but i found if you left cruise control on it would carry a good optimum speed up the rather steep, long hill coming off the desert floor back into San Diego .I really think that my truck was in like 2nd gear @ 60 mph is this ok for long periods ,because i tried 3rd on a manual shift and it wasn't carrying the rpm's to support the gear ? dunno just getting aquatinted with its capabilities towing in this truck .feel free to enlighten
