Felpro valve cover gaskets!!! You decide

I installed Felpro valve cover gaskets 6900 miles ago (18 months ago) and I am doing it again with OEM valve cover gaskets. The leak from Felpro gaskets is as bad as my OEM valve cover gaskets which lasted 200,000 miles!

The notch is almost gone (see image).

I put fel-pro valve cover gaskets in our old Cavalier and our Corolla. Both were weeping within a year. From now on OEM Toyota for me also.

while I have not put felpro on this 4runner, I have in other applications and felpro was always the go to choice for American rigs

wow that blows. i think they should be blue though, what is the PN you got?? The correct PN is Fel-Pro VS50422R and my understanding from [MENTION=123173]Jhelms[/MENTION] is that they are blue.

Had my valve cover gaskets done 8 months ago. Not a lick of oil. I’ve always heard the felpro gaskets were good.

Also, mine are blue

The correct Fel-Pro gaskets are blue, as stated before. Never had an issue with Fel Pro gaskets before.

It is entirely possible you have counterfeit vc gaskets. Where did you buy them from? Fel Pro is a top quality name.

Yup, those are not Fel-Pro. Someone sold you cheapo knockoffs.

Very clean mating surfaces, a well seated gasket and proper torque between all of the bolts is crucial. As is a BB of RTV around the half moons it seems.

Looks like you'll have to get another and change it out, hopefully the next one will be good and last for the life of the vehicle

For what it's worth I have the blue ones and they have a nice ridge on them.

Check the packaging. The blue ones are made in China and black ones in Japan. I had used a blue set on a lexus and they hardened in a very short time and leaked. I just installed a black set from japan. Time will tell but if these leak, Im done wil felpro.

Just curious if you put the FIPG on the seam lines? Where was it leaking?

^^ I used FIPG TOYOTA on half moons. The leak is almost from front to back on both valve covers. I tighten the bolts but the leak continued.

Blues ones are likely the older Fel Pro manufactured inhouse. Like with all parts companies, they have been outsourcing so if you're getting black ones with a made in Japan tag, they could be just a repackaged NOK which is a common supplier for Toyota. I bought Beck and Arnley valve cover gaskets and they had a NOK tag.

So you only FIPG'd the half moons and nothing else? It should be the half moons, cam plugs, and entire seam.

As said above, Felpro should be blue, and I've always put FIPG along the entire seam and never had any leaking.

Ohh. "fail pro's". That's what we call them in the DSM community. I've seen them fail many times. I had them fail me to many times. Oem only for me.
