Fender Flare options

My 2000 has the thin black and chrome flares, was thinking of replacing them with one of the larger ones that I can use with my original mounting holes. On the other hand, I was debating whether or not making my own flares would be worth the time.

For what its worth I checked the window sticker for my 2000 SR5.

Based on this I would expect the vehicle to have the thin chrome moldings. I don't see the black flairs mentioned explicitly. No mention really of them when you look at a brochure for 2000 either but they are pictured.

That's not the original window sticker. That will tell a much different story.

Fair enough. Yeah I just had this printed off at a Toyota dealership. Figured the info regarding equipment would be accurate despite it not being a full Monroney.

Dealer installed flares (the black SR5 ones) won't show up on the Toyota corporate VIN check.

The only way to have no flares/trim on the wheel wells was to have 15" wheels. Once the 16" wheels are installed at least the chrome trim was installed (tire coverage rules).

The wide/sport SR5 flares and the Limited flares require body changes, so those are always going to be factory installed.

I swear I have have seen many later ('01/'02) trucks with the chrome trim, but those are probably 2WD's - most of the 4Runners around SoCal are 2WD...

I think fender flare terminology needs a reform. It's so hard to discuss fender flares if it isn't about the Limited flares. The commonly called "SR5 black flares" could be installed on a base model.

Furthermore, the "Sport flares" could be had on a non-Sport SR5 from 2000 to 2002. No painted bumper = not a Sport.

As was mentioned above the black SR5 flares were a dealer option and not a factory option. You have to find all the parts used. The hardest to find are the clips for the door flares. I remember searching online for a good part of the day and never came close to finding those clips. I have 2 clips on my doors instead of four and double sided tape where the missing clips are
