Fender Mirror

I've conducted a few searches and found none about the popular fender mirrors that are often found on the Japanese Hilux Surfs. Anyone know where this item can be purchased online?

Check out Japan Parts for this Fender Mirror. Just keep in mind that the shipping cost almost make this cost prohibitive. Contact Koji ( sales rep ) at [email protected] there. He'll work with you.

Thanks for heads up Noloc. I'll check em out and determine if its worthwhile for the shipping. From the looks of their website, it looks like the fender mirrors are chrome. Has anyone seen one that can be painted to match the color of the car? I just think they look sweet that way.

Check out my truck. Mine is painted the same color as my truck.

I'm not sure where you would get them and they would be on the wrong side (RHD here) anyways.

What do you really see out of the fender mirror

I was at the AMLUX Toyota dealership in Japan (on vaction) and I happened to take a few pics of this new 06 Helix Surf Limited. I've always wanted to know how these fender mirrors work, and I finally got an opportunity to get up and personal w/ the unit.

Here's a zoomed in shot from the drivers seat. (Right side driver)

The battery to the truck was disconnected, so I couldn't tilt the mirror (also has motor functions) from its fixed position...

Looks dumb and out of place especially on a US vehicle. They are only on JDM vehicles because it's a law not because they look good.

If I had to guess, I'd say the fender mirror is for blind spots. Or maybe for parallel parking?

What function does the mirror serve? What do you actually see in it and why is it required by law?

I meant it was required by law in Japan since it is a JDM part. Unless maybe you were towing a long trailer I don't see it being useful except to create drag and reduce gas mileage.

On second thought, It appears that the fender mirrors are good for blind spots and for the safty of motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians. Note, a lot of people in the city ride scooters and motorcycles, however, their size makes them dificult to spot out.
