Few 4runnner issues...

Hello so I just got my 2000 4runner and I have a few issues that need fixing but I'm not sure how to fix it..

1. My AC will randomly turn onto aut full blast and I turn it off then it will keep on turning on.. Also gives me the error code 21 for the solar sensor circut but not sure if thats the cause. (Fixed)
2. The radio leds will flicker on and off not sure if its a bad connection.. (Fixed)
3. My shifter lights besides the shifter workes sometimes but majority of the time they're off.
4. My sun roof tends to leak in the rain any good ways to fix the leak or make a better seal.

I'm not really much help for the first 3, but for the last question, your drain is probably clogged and needs to be cleared.

No answer to the 1st 3, but I had the same issue for the 4th one. Check the seal seam on the front side of the gasket. They sometimes develop a split, so use seam sealer from Advance Autoparts, It cures and becomes impervious to water penetration. I did not have a clogged drain, but also check to make sure that its clean as well. Hope that helps!

It sounds like a loose ground wire in the center stack of the instrument panel. They should be a group of brown wires bolted to steel chassis in there. Look for signs of recent removal and replacement of radio or HVAC panel..

2. Factory radio? Check the harness at the back of the radio and the pre-amp connectors on the firewall behind/below the radio
3. Shifter lights where, console or dash? If console, pry up the bezel and check for a loose connection to the bulb

I assume you have a limited with the auto climate control? If so, these are prone to fail, almost at 100% rate. A lot of good write ups out there to fix it, involves pulling the circuit board and hitting the solder points...can also send it to people on ebay to fix. I need to do this on my new to me 1999 limited.

From what I have read about the sunroof....either caulk it shut and live with it, or you have to buy a whole new sunroof, there are no parts available, just sold as a whole unit....didn't sound that bad to replace though from the write ups I have read.

2. Yes it's a factory radio.
3. The shifter lights by the center console.

The shifter takes a single 194 bulb that you can access by prying the shifter bezel up

Mine was dead so I installed this one and it's hella bright

The shifter takes a single 194 bulb that you can access by prying the shifter bezel up

Mine was dead so I installed this one and it's hella bright

Thanks for that info I'll have to try it and see if that fixes my issue.
The lights flicker on and off so not sure if it's a bad connection or just a burnt bulb. Did you have this same issue?

If you have 4WD it is a #74 bulb. I just replaced mine but it is still dead. Need to pull out the meter and test input.

It is super easy to get to, and can be made easier by pulling the 3 screws that hold down the shifter housing.

Yes I do have a 4x4. It's a 2000 limited.
I'll stop by the store and pick up a bulb today to see if I have that same issue. If you find out how to fix it can you send it to me please

If you replaced with LED the polarity could be reversed.

Well mine was easier than I thought...just had to really push that bulb in there. Not sure if my socket has an issue or what, but I pressed the bulb in pretty hard and it came on...then when I went to re-seat the whole thing under the shifter it didn't want to fit into it's twist ring...thinking the contact to the bulb must be bent and so I had to insert the bulb further which pressed the plastic socket wider and made it harder to fit into the twist hole...but after monkeying around with it, it is working fine.

Well I got my #1 fixed. It wasn't any issues with the grounds it was a issue with the hardware. I sent it to a guy on ebay and he fixed it for $60 and changed the LEDs to blue as well which I couldn't be more happy cause it's matching some of the mods I'm doing. Next is my radio I'm replacing it with a Kenwood DDX374BT which will be here sometime this week and I'll put it in the next week on my days off. Here's a pic of the AC unit after he changed the LEDs.

It's a daylight picture I'll take another and update it tonight.
