I've had my TE now for over 2 months. I'm still amazed at how FEW 2010's I see on the road. I admit that in a way I feel unique - seems like nobody else has a car like mine :dancin: But it'd be nice to see a few more on the road so I can admire them from a distance :hello:

Anybody else feel this way?

I've only seen a handful of 5ths. I have had quite a few people tell me how much they like the look of it. It definitely feels unique just by the fact that every other "SUV" that I go by is missing a SRA and BOF. I see features on the side of the road and I think, yup, I could drive over that.... that person in the Acadia over there wouldn't.

Only in my 3rd week of ownership, but I'm in love w/ this truck.

I have seen 1 on the road here in the Chicago 'burbs ever. My exposure to 5th Gens is online and in the showroom. Highlanders are EVERYWHERE here...

The wife swears she saw a black "new style" 4Runner the other day. I highly doubt it.

Easy fix, drive somewhere that the mustang couldn't go.

You still have a solid rear axle on the 4Runner... just like the Mustang.

I'm coming from a 2003 Honda Pilot, more of a crossover vehicle. Will the 2010 4runner ride be really inferior when I'm on the highway? Some articles make it sound as if I'm in for a real rough truck ride. I know the ride is going to be different than a mustang, but that might not be a fair comparison. I just hope it won't be much worse than the average crossover.

All things being equal, a solid-rear-axle truck won't ride quite as comfortably as one a cross-over has an independent rear suspension. Of course, all things are never equal and more than a few manufacturers have messed up the tuning of an IRS.

The issue with a solid rear axle is that it has a lot of unsprung weight. That makes it harder for the shock absorbers to and springs to control the movement of the axle. When you go over a sharp bump that impacts both wheels (e.g., highway expansion joint), that accelerates a very large mass (rear wheels, rear axle, and rear differential). In contrast, an IRS has a significantly smaller unsprung weight (rear wheels, rear control arms and halfshafts).

On my 4th gen, if the highway is bumpy in just the right frequency, the ride starts to get a bit busy. It isn't awful, but it certainly isn't car-like. The 4th gen was about as well tuned as a solid-rear-axle truck can be, and I expect that the 5th gen is similar. But you won't mistake it for a car or a cross-over. It's a truck.

Not many 2010's here in central PA but wouldn't you figure the only other one I see is a Silver SR5......just like mine. The difference is I have the third row seat and they don't. Smile and wave boys, smile and wave.

I have seen a handful around NC, but I have still yet to see another TE, besides mine of course, I am curious how long it will be before I see one...

Sorry I got this a little off topic. M1911 broke it down well and just make sure you test drive. I think the 4runner is just fine on the road. I got the 4runner becaue it is a truck and I want to get into light wheeling and outdoor activities again. I've had a lifted Jeep that I wheeled often and made the transition back to cars. The transition back to a truck again on road is just taking a little longer this time.
