Few questions about my 3rd gen..

Just got a 99 Limited 4wd with 196k. Its got a 3 inch spacer lift, and the ride quality is definitely lacking. I am planning to replace it with a suspension lift. My question is, could I go any lower and still clear the 275/75r16s? They are new Terra grapplers.. I just think its a little to tall. Whats an affordable setup that will maintain the required height to clear the tires? I know this has been asked a million times i'm sure, and I apologize in advance if this annoys the shit out of someone... after searching for some of this info, I find it a little overwhelming. I just need a setup thats decent for mild off roading, no water or rock climbing... also, are there any key suspension components that are worth changing at the same time? thanks for any help you can offer.

Double check that tire size....285/75r16 or 265/75/16?
Does it have any sort of body lift? Are you running wheel adapters or spacers?

Have the ball joints been done? How do the tie rods look?

I'm very fond of my Sonoran Steel lift on the daily driver. Great road manners, great off-road too. Not inexpensive, but worth a look imo.

OK so that works out 32.2X10.83R16 approximately. Now a stock truck with factory suspension should fit on 33's so you should be fine. Depends on what your using the runner for though. If your offroading, your going to be super stuffed offroading with little articulation/ flex. So a 2 or 3" suspension lift would be nice if you do plan on hitting the dirt roads anytime soon. I agree Sonoran Steel is a good brand, but Old Man Emu (OME) will match/ possibilty out preform and you could save a buck or two. Go to Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits to see pricing on different brands for different ride heights and styles.

If they are 265/75R16 they fit with stock suspension no issues. I am running those on my 97 sr5 with stock springs no spacers and I have some sag with no rubbing. 285/75R16 will rub at least a little with no lift at full lock.
Good lifts for mild offroad are: Old Man Emu(OME), Tundra/OME or LC, SS Basic. All are good budget entry level lifts that perform very well. Do some searches for 4runner lifts. Spacers will give a harsher ride if they are the type that preload the springs. Be sure to get the front diff drop and and you may want to do the pan hard bar drop as well.

they are 285s..I got ahead of myself.. I will check for some free play in the ball joints when this weekend... I dont have any wheel spacers yet, however I considered picking some up soon. Any idea if bilstein 5100s w/ trd coils up front and 5100s with OME 906 coils in the back will provide enough clearance? I looked into Sonoran and it definitely is an option... it just sits a little to high and narrow for my taste..im sure the wheel spacers would help with countering the narrowness.

Wheel adapters (I run 1", would be happy with 3/4") will help with rubbing on the frame during turns and upper a-arm clearance if that's an issue (was with mine, but others seem to have no problem). Personally I can't stand spacers after running 1/4" versions on my 96.

Search lower ball joint failures. General concensus seems to be to do them around 150,000 miles with either oem or some people use the '555'.

I actually just watched that video.. but he only went up too a 265/75.. I am just concerned that i would have issues with the 285.. any ideas if that exact setup with the addition of a 1" wheel spacer would give me the proper clearance? I really appreciate the feedback.

I can't find the thread now but I have definitely seen someone on here post about that same setup with 285's and no rubbing issues... If I stumble across it I will post the link.

I used to run the old Pirelli Scorpion A/T's 275/75R16 (best tires I ever owned, too bad they stopped making them) on my stock 99 tall springs with slight rubbing only when turning the wheel all the way to the left or right. OK, I see you have 285.
