Fightman's Build Thread

I haven't done the Tundra Brakes, and actually did do a complete overhaul, including new calipers a few years back.

At the time, I didn't want to take a chance with the Tundra swap, as there wasn't a ton of info on here about it. Since then, Bigfish has done his thread, and now I wish I would have.

That being said, new calipers, rotors, and pads for the front will run me close to $400.00. In a time where I planning on doing a lift and tires for the Taco, I can't justify that overhaul right now.

The 4Runner brakes work fine, just not as touchy as the Taco. That could also be because the fluid in the Master Cylinder is old... and might just need to be flushed. I'm planning on doing that over the course of the winter here.
 
I went the OEM route it was a lot more than $400 either way i am glad that i took the time and had it done. I had it done in Mide summer, so i guessi should be good untill the middle of next summer. it only gets driven on the weekend and sometime during the week.

I am bad at guessing, make that just plain awful, so I will have to wait and see. Rest up, no use in getting sick trying to fix those Chevy trucks in the snow.

The stock 4runner brakes work well if one does not lift it, take it off road, or tow behind it. On this board I am guessing that such applies to less than 5% of the forum members here.
 
I don't work on Chevy trucks... just drive one at work.... and I'm off work until Tuesday Morning.... so hoping to get over this thing before hand. lol!

As for Bedlining my rockers.... nope. Mine are just fine.... ;)
 
Alright.... since nobody figured it out... I'm tinting my front windows on the 4runner. (told you it was something small! lol!)

Now that being said... I can get it done at a reputable shop for $70.00. However, I was approached recently by a guy I know through work, who offered to do mine for $40.00!

What would you do? Give a small business a chance..... or go with the Reputable installer?
 
Depends if the guy you know from work has some good feedback from others or I'd ask to see some pics of his previous work. Perhaps it's cheaper b/c of using cheaper tint? I'd be sure. You wouldn't want to have to do it twice.
 
Well, was supposed to do it this Sunday, but now working an Overtime shift that day. lol! Gonna call him and see if we can schedule it for Saturday afternoon.... :)
 
Not a mod!

Well, Saturday was a bust.... ended up with Freezing rain, roads were closed, and Sunday I had to work!

Then Monday rolls around, and I use my remote start to warm up my 4Runner for the drive to work. When I get outside, I find the truck isn't running, and I had a flat on the Passenger side front tire! I tried starting the truck with the key.... but nothing... just a ticking sound.

So today, (my day off, first one in over a week... lol) I get outside, thinking it's my crummy alternator again... and rip out the alternator. I then go to the store to return it, and had the parts guy bench test it. After 4 passes on the machine.... he suggested I check my terminals and have my battery load tested.

Well, since my battery was only a year old, I figured... it was probably 14 year old terminals. I was right!

I also found some grounds, and some power wires that had some bad insulation on them...

After switching out the terminals connectors and taping up all the bad insulation, I took the key again, went to the ignition, and it started right up! No boost! Who would have thunk..... you need good connectors to get a good current to start the truck! lol!

I'm talking to Ted (the Window tint guy), to see if he can do the tint job on the 4Runner on Saturday morning.... maybe I'll actually get it done!
 
Good to hear that you got Mean Green running again. Sometimes it is the simple things, especially electrical.

BTW, is that a Motomaster battery? My buddy in Quebec loves using Motomaster's synthetic oil in his 2010 Landcruiser.
 
I'm surprised that the terminals actually wore out. Are there rubber covers you can buy to protect the new ones? I remember seeing them somewhere. My winch came with some so it would make sense that they might be useful.

Glad it was an easy fix!

I'm glad as well.... was thinking I had to swap the battery or replace that crummy alternator for the 3rd time again in less than 2 years! lol!

The battery is a Motomaster Battery..... It's one of their top of the line batteries, with around 900 Cold Cranking Amps. I used to buy Motomaster Formula 1 Semi-Synthetic Motor Oil for my vehicles.... but they stopped selling it at a reduced price.... so now I buy whatever is on sale. I usually buy at least 2 of 3 jugs at a time.... this way I always have some sitting around here.

I didn't get any rubber protectors for the terminal connections... but will get my hands on some Electrical Grease, and make sure they are covered really well! ;)
 
Mean Green with her Winter Boots! ;)

Took a pic today of Mean Green with her Winter wheels and tires on. Also has all the chrome treated with WD40, and she's dirty as hell! lol!

The truck will stay dirty all winter long (like every year since I bought her). Also, ALMOST got the window tint done today, had the guy over to do it this morning, but with no heat in the garage, and -6*C outside.... the soap and water being used to apply the tint, froze on contact with the glass!

It's all pre-cut now, but I'll be going to see the guy on Monday to get it done in his heated shop!
 
Thanks guys... as for the timeline on the tint... it got pushed another 2 days! We got some freezing rain last night, and the streets have only recently gotten to the point that they were safe to drive! lol!

I'm scheduled to do it tomorrow at 5pm... but my daughter has her Christmas play at 6pm... and it might be cutting it short!! lol!

Gonna call him back, and book for Wednesday at 5pm..... should definitely get it done that day!

TRUST ME.... I'M TIRED OF LOOKING AT THE STOCK GLASS!!! ;)
 
nice! dang man that got pushed so many times! I love having 20% on my fronts. it looks good plus less people stare at you haha cant wait to see the pics!
