Filler piece for roof rack channel, is it important?

Funny... I bought my 4runner 3 weeks ago. Just washed it for the first time this past weekend. Stood up on the step bars and noticed that my drivers side roof weatherstrip was missing. I was wondering if it's even necessary. Dealer wanted $97 for it. I've found it online new for $57. Still looking around, I'll probably pick one up just because it will bother me until I do

Mine is missing them as well. On the one side, a few of those "spot welds" actually started rotting out. I'm assuming from water sitting? Food for thought.

Does this stripping actually prevent the roof from leaking? I was thinking about taking it out on one side to replace with wire loom siliconed down for a light bar

While it probably helps shed water off the roof - No, it doesn't prevent leaking in any way. The only holes in the channels are where the rack mounts.

I was referring to the dimples in that channel. It looks like they're spot welds of some sort. I can't say if exposure to more moisture started it, but I had pinholes forming in a few of them. Here's a picture of it. Can't say for sure that these missing had an effect

I know you were...that's why I had quoted philskeeter

I wouldn't suspect there's a direct correlation to removing those channels and those spots rusting. The channels help shed water. They aren't completely sealing off the channels.

I had removed mine for a while with no adverse affects. But again...everyone's case is different.

I'm trying to find the part numbers for the roof rack channel rubbers as I am now missing them. Don't know where they went too; must of blew off on the highway.

I think they are called drip rails? Does anyone have those numbers?

edit: Part number: DRIP W'STRIP - Toyota (75557-35010), same number for both sides.

This might sound a bit strange, but my '15 TE never had them. I remember thinking it was kinda cheap on Toyota's part to leave that channel open and not have some sort of trim. But no - never had it in there from day 1.

Just put a bead of silicone and stick it in the groove.

Part numbers here the $82 list price ones. Looks like 75557-35010 both sides.

Found out I'm missing the right side one too. Anyone have any they are parting with while installing a roof rack? want to help a brother out?
