Finally! Aftermarket Carplay and Android Auto with Entune - Individual or Group Buy

Very interested but also concerned Apple could shut it down similar to ebay iPhone charge cables which get a pop up message after using for awhile saying not compatible or not authorized or similar.

Looks like you need to also plug this in to your aux in on the radio. Seems like a very clunky solution that would be better spent on a new head unit that is apple certified, which I highly doubt this is.

This is the company and this is definitely the product. Less than two minutes ago, I sent the company an email asking tons of questions. But on the Amazon page, it looks like some of the questions are answered. So:

The company emailed me back. Here is their exact response. I asked all of y'all's questions and some of my own as well.

In the video, Android Auto is described as a feature of the device. Can you confirm this? If so, do you have a video of this running Android Auto? - Yes there are plenty of android auto videos on our youtube channel.

Is this Apple Certified? -> No it's not certified, it's an aftermarket solution.

Is it possible to make this wireless? -> It's possible but we are not planning it at the moment because wireless brings a lot of problems such as RF interference etc... which is not a stable solution to make for aftermarket but we keep studying how to make this stable for Toyota aftermarket retrofit.

Do you have any reviews or testimonials from 4Runner owners? -> Well we do not track this so I am not sure about what to tell but it's the only solution in the world for USA Toyota to have plug and play retrofit at the moment.

On the PDF, a microphone is shown. Do you have to use the one you provide or can you use the one that came with the 4Runner? -> Must use the one from the component. to make it use the microphone of OEM radio, it's a higher level of development which requires more time and effort which makes the product cost raise, but if the sales grow certain amount we are targeting than we will review the OEM Microphone using solution.

Will this void the warranty on the radio or the 4Runner? -> We are just a solution development company so I can not know what is Toyota's policy exactly. But as far as I know, there is no way they can track the installation if you remove the unit, it's 100% plug and play device.

Do you provide any warranty on the product? -> Yes we do provide 2 years factory, limited warranty for the product.

What is the return policy? -> If the customer followed all our installation instructions and the unit does not work properly then we take care of both return shipping and provide a full refund of it. We deduct shipping cost if the customer just not like the unit.

Where do you hide all of the cables? Inside the dash? -> This part depends on the installer's taste. But what I have seen was, they have hidden all the units behind radio and glove box, and used USB Extension cable to connect the phone from a convenient location. I think car owners can figure out the best position better than us.

Me: I think you could do a USB extender like this and route it to the blank under the push button start button or to the right of the steering wheel.

Do you have specific installation instructions? -> It's 100% plug and play product from behind radio, can you please let me know what part of installation do you want to know more about it? We do not provide car disassemble manual because you can find it everywhere on Youtube.

Hello everyone!
I have some exciting and interesting news. I have found a product that allows you to have Apple Carplay with Entune, plug and play. To go to Carplay mode, all you do is double press the volume knob, the backup camera, and steering wheel controls still work with Carplay. You can even use the entune touch screen to control Carplay. The company sent me a PDF with all of the info on the setup, PDF found here. Works with 2014-2019.

Is this Apple Certified? -> No it's not certified, it's an aftermarket solution.

Aftermarket solutions are supposed to get certified and licensed.

I know this because I work with some people at Pioneer, JVC, Kenwood and Apple must give their stamp of approval before releasing a product which sometimes can be very difficult to accomplish.

Echoing everyones concerns of the potential for Apple to shut it down.. I would like to get a Pioneer or nice "approved" unit but keeping factory faceplate is a big plus, the aftermarket ones are never colored right and look so bare with no buttons...

If Apple didn't kill it I'd be interested in how often/if it gets updated.

Audio/microphone issues too.. I rarely take calls mobile, but would be nice to have it working for that.

Guess I will watch for other's more brave feedback

Looking at the screen, its Chinese. I am going to guess this product is made from China. I would be worried about me voiding the crap out of 4 runner electronic wiring behind the navi. lol

You get used to not having the buttons, I almost never used them anyway. I do miss that big knurled volume knob I could reach with my pinky while my hand was still on the wheel. I've adapted to using the volume rocker on the steering wheel instead though.
Point on with the dash faceplate kits. Metra has a black one that's out now, it's close, but not perfect. I took mine to a body shop and left a piece of the trim from below the temp control to match. It came out beautifully, the faceplate looks factory though the radio is obviously not (Kenwood).

I also noticed this is a lot of black boxes and wires all over the place. I'm sure you can tidy it up more than a bit, and there's probably room behind the dash for it all. But the Maestro-RR install is a LOT cleaner and smaller AND has more options if the head supports it like gauges and OBD-II read/clear. If you're trying to do it on the cheap this might work, but I think you're further ahead to do it right the first time with a quality head unit and a Maestro unit. Besides Toyota Nav and speed lockout sucks!

there's carplay aftermarket head units that are probably more reliable than this.. alpine has a carplay unit releasing this year for about 300 dollars. Yes, yes, you gotta pay for the steering wheel adapter etc etc but i'd feel better going w/ an alpine over this hack job.
