No time yet, life is a little crazy with 4 grad classes and a 80 mile commute...and grabbing this thing trying to get it squared away....today got the cloth seats- AWESOME..the owner turned out to be super nice, actually has an identical 4runner to mine but MINT....1999 green, 5 speed, locker, only 107k miles!!! Seats look brand new, have way more support, actually have some lumbar adjustment, and nice side support on legs and lower back, the seats are freaky comfy...and make the entire 4runner interior look like a different animal...leather in crappy condition looks nasty to me, now it looks like its ten years newer....once I get it detailed its gonna be super sweet nice inside...and not that I care about stereo systems, but the previous owner put a booming system in so jamming country in LA traffic from a lifted 4x4 is my guilty pleasure
Oh, got the seats for $400...and yes they look new...the owner said my leather seats were worth a lot if I fixed them and resold them or I could make money on them, I said well you can keep them and Ill give you $400 and he said cool....works for me, no hassle in selling another set of seats or dragging them home...and he had his guys install them which they did a heck of a lot faster than I could have and takes away a huge hassle...so it was sweet!
Then fought traffic to Toyota dealer who just did the brakes and rear axle seals two weeks ago.....I smelled the darn brakes so took it back, despite having to wait the service guy was cool, knew the original owner, and the original owner called them already said something was up....they said the brakes needed adjusted a little, and that there was oil from the axle seals not cleaned up enough or something...whatever they did it stopped the rear brakes from smelling (I only smelled it once on way to school Thursday, but hey if they are brand new might as well get it checked out for sure while its free)....then off to AAA to finally register it, as DMV was down Wed when I bought it....then stopped by my Jeep mechanic (those of you who read any off road magazines with Jerrod Jones as the editor, this is where he takes all his rigs)......so of course they loved it and want me to take it to Pismo in a few weeks.....
Two Toyota dealers quoted me at $200 each for an axleshaft, and anywhere from $350-475 each side in labor! My mechanic said he can take them down the street to an American company that still makes and rebuilds axles, and they can reboot, regrease, and fix anything that needs fixing for cheap....and that most of the $75 axleshafts are made in China and he hates Chinese ****....so he said better to keep the Japanese original Toyota shafts and rebuild them probably costs the same and better quality...then he will change the fluids in my front diff, tranny, and check it out so everything is hopefully good to go....
I forgot to ask, after getting new axleshafts, will I need to get it aligned? Probably stupid question but I was just curious....want to do everything I need to in the next few weeks, so I can focus on the 15 books for this semester in grad school Im behind on already because of car shopping, 4x4 forum addictions, and buying the 4runner haha....
Oh a few more things on the to do list....I think Ill keep the rubber mats for now....but I need a new shifter knob, the leather is peeling and turns my hand black, the guy I bought seats from said he just replaced his for $100 from a dealer crap...I aint paying that for a shifter, just want a nice generic one I guess...and, I need to make sure after I get it detailed to get a good POW-MIA sticker, Dont Tread on Me license plate holder, and an NRA sticker Let these LA/OC Cali folks know Im not some surfer boy hahah....because right now there is a surfer sticker on it! Nothing against surfing, I just guess since its my commuter vehicle parking it on a college campus I wanna show my support for our soldiers, 2nd amendment rights, and maybe a thin blue line sticker since I am retired LEO and I support all my brothers and sisters in blue (fire too)....
