Oddly no, they are only giving designers a 15% off coupon, which is stupid (meaning I wait until this time every year to do test prints?). Pretty ridiculous they gave us a 15% off shop coupon last year to give out to people.

This is a little unorthodox but I was curious to see if it worked and I needed something to test out Plasti Dip on. So here is what I started with:

Cost me $8 shipped on eBay. I liked the font and it kind of matches the 4Runner font on the back.
I trimmed off the unneeded letters and sprayed on the Dip. I did 6 coats with 30 min between them. Here was the result.

Here it is on the vehicle.

Pretty happy with how it turned out. Just something different which is what I am after. Let me know what you think!

Just ordered 3x of the regular Black Plastic ones. Would like it to be smooth so i will spray paint it. Maybe not Plasti dip since it comes off.

The letters don’t even line up...and who on earth would take a GM emblem and put it on a Toyota?

It is actually pretty smooth (you really wouldn't notice it from few feet away, of course a good paint job will smooth it out). The prints now are smoother than the original prints I received. The roughness certainly helps primer/paint adhere.

The pic attached is a test print in plain white, it hasn't been tumbled like the premium prints. AAA battery for scale.

Any 3m VHB (very high bond) double sided will work just fine. It is made for automotive uses. I use 1.5 inch as you only need 1 piece the length of the print, then trim with razor knife (The one linked in the Shapeways description has gotten pretty expensive for some reason) you could use this for example:

You could also get some the width of the letters and just trace with VHB, the thin width is really still pretty cheap.

I plasti-dipped mine. Others have used exterior UV stable rattle can.

Got it, so I’m gonna get this 1/2” by 5ft. Should be enough for 3 TRAIL emblems. Also 1/2” will do fine, dont think lines of each letters are wider than 1/2”.

So after finally getting time to do this. I gave it to a professional paint shop. From what i got, there were tiny holes on the badge. I think they must have sanded it before painting. I couldn’t accept this so i wet sanded it myself and saw those tiny holes. I then spray painted it multiple coats. Took about 7 coats to somewhat hide those tiny holes and ended up being kinda roundish on the edge of the badge. Overall i’m just disappointed. :-(

Sorry you're disappointed.

Well the material is slightly porous, you can see that in the image I posted above, it is pretty obvious. That is an untreated print, as mentioned.

If you buy the colored versions (for example: Black Natural Versatile Plastic or Premium Black Versatile Plastic) that have been tumbled and coated, that porous surface is covered. Sanding it destroys that prepared surface. You paint it with a filler primer to smooth it out (untreated prints would certainly require a lot more coats). You can wet sand after it has been primed and don't go through the primer. Not sure what to say about the shop you took it to, have they ever worked with 3d printed materials before? The stuff I have seen come out from professional shops that work with printed materials look amazing, so much so you wouldn't know it was a print.

Again sorry you're disappointed. Not sure what else to say, hundreds of people have bought prints, apart from a couple broken or deformed, which Shapeways has always replaced, no one else seems to have had any issues with them. I have a primed and plasti-dipped print on my truck for three years now, if you are a foot away it could use a touch up, three feet you don't even notice.
