Finally got the Tacoma wheels on!

Well I finally got my new wheels on. They are the wheels that come factory on the TRD OffRoad Tacomas. I painted them black and think they look great. I still have to get centercaps for them though. I am not normally a fan of white letter tires but I decided to try the white letters out this time around I really like it. Anyways, here is the only picture I could get (shitty day here).

Offset is too positive. The wheels look inset far into the fender. With that narrow of a stance, it makes the truck look top heavy. Have you considered a spacer to bring them back out?

With the limited fender flares, you want the wheels to flare out... Not sit in worse than stock.

Example of a good setup with limited flares:

16 x 8 wheel negative 20 offset 3.5" backspace
 
do the Ivan Stewart 16x8 rims have that offset? i'm trying to get my limited flares filled out like you said. i really dislike that skinny pushed in look

Yeah I know what you mean. If I were to go out and buy some wheels these would not have been my choice for that reason. I picked up these wheels for free and only have about $20 in painting them so I'm not being too picky. I do plan on investing in some spacers to bring them out but probably not until spring time.

Thanks for all the positive comments. As I said I still plan on purchasing wheel spacers, purchasing center caps, and also painting over the wheel weights.

16x8" Ivan Stewarts have a +1mm offset if I'm not mistaken. They fill out the fenders nicely. They stick out roughly one inch further than the 16x7" stock wheels. :bigok:

IMO, they fill out the flares perfeclty...

Wheels look good, but like others have said, the offset is too high. I had some Tundra wheels, and those were sunken in a tiny bit, but the Tacoma wheels seem even more pronounced. Personally, I wouldn't run spacers, but that's up to you. I know the wheels were free, but there are tons of other options. For instance, I just ran across an ad yesterday (locally) for some 16" pro-comp wheels (4) for $100 obo. That's dirt cheap.

I definitely enjoy my wip (work-in-progress). It's always evolving. Finally got the Tundra Brake Upgrade done this past weekend...braking is much, much better.

By the way, you got a clean ride yourself. :cool:

I can't understand how trucks with a few mods here and there get high ratings on that site, (or rated at all for that matter). I hooked up the folks that I felt put in a lot of time into their rigs. The work shows.

Glad to hear that the Tundra upgrade worked out for you.

I can't agree more. Quite a few of the 4Runners that have been given high ratings on that site are just "so-so" in my book. Granted there are plenty of 4Runners w/ twice as many mods as mine that do deserve higher ratings, but some 4Runners look as though they were just driven off the dealer's lot and slapped w/ a high rating just for a stock appearance. I guess some guys figure a few additional aftermarket interior/exterior lights transform their 4Runner into some kind of modern marvel...go figure. :confused:

I understand they are not everyones first choice in wheels and believe me they would not be my first choice either. But I literally have less than $20 in them and had them mounted for free so if I ended up not liking them I can chalk it up as an experiment and sell them or something.

I am 21 years old living out on my own and working full time to support my fiance in nursing school and our 8 month old baby boy. I bought this truck with my own money, I pay my own insurance and I pay every bill on my own so forgive me if I can't afford some 16x8 wheels with -20 offset. When you are living like I am you have to take what you can get. If I wanted some run of the mill pro comp wheels that everyone else has then I might as well just stuck with the stock split 3 spokes, but I thought I would try and be different from most. I would eventually like to get some LX 450 wheels but for $20 these will do for now.

Thanks for those of you who left positive feedback, I work hard to make this truck unique on the budget I'm on.

Don't get me wrong bro! Can't complain with free.

I'm not out to git ya! My intention was to explain offsets/backspacing. There's obviously more to rims than just the bolt pattern and caliper clearance.

The overall look of the wheel is cool. I haven't seen them on a 3rd gen. For that I give you the :bigok:
