Finally Lifted!!

I have to thank whole bunch of people on the forum for the info.

I basically copied euy's setup (thanks buddy)

Front - FJ Springs/Shocks (tokico) - 1in DS kit
Rear - FJ Spring/Shocks (tokico) - 1.5in DS kit
1.25 Spidertrax wheels spacers placed.
Tires - stock 265/65/17 - THis is too small now. Plan to get new tires after riding for few weeks.

We screwed up on the XREAS system LOL - leaked everywhere.. oh well.. never turning back since it is a POS setup IMHO.

It is MUCH firmer (in a good way) and stable at all driving conditions. Car feels so much safer and smoother.

I think i could go firmer in the front. - Now, really thinking about Bilestein 5100 and OME springs in the front. How would that change the overall height? I really need you input on this.
Im planning to put 275/70/17 BGF AT KO

looks good. how much lift did you get in front vs back? even though it says 1" and 1.5" f/r, it always ends up differnet.

The Bilstein 5100s are designed to work with the stock front springs dude. you have it backwards. you want the OME in the rear else you use a spacer of some type which is whack imo (spacers are a stop gap don't have enough money measure). this lifted my truck 2.5". do a search.

curious: Why'd you bother to do all this now instead of doing the full kit the right way the first time around?

He did do HIS truck the right way because that's the setup HE wanted to do.....

And FYI I have a spacer lift and have plenty of money to buy a coilover setup or in your opinion "the right way" but I chose not to due to my little off reading needs. You sounded like you were kinda putting this guy down when he has a great looking truck.

Full kit costs a lot and I never go offroading. I got these parts at almost nothing. It's all for on road freeway ride/look.

I have xreas suspension which was really horrible. One of the reason why I had to do something about the car. Small bumps and een road would "rock" my car.

I have 35k miles. All highway.

FJ parts are a good an cheap alternative I think. Firmer ad seems more stable for normal driving condition. It isn't bumpy or stiff but a good balance.

Nice work Kormaster. I think it looks great. Cars and trucks are cool in that we can cater them to what WE want. A vehicle is an outward expression of the person who drives it. Do what you want with it and don't look back.

Now... moving on to the Bilsteins.... I had the Trail Teams setup on an FJ Cruiser I owned for 2 years and I must say that it was noticeably firm and smooth at the same time. I believe it fits exactly what you're looking for. The Tokicos aren't bad at all. Bilsteins will firm up the ride a bit more, but not necessarily in a bad way.

I loved how the FJ tracked on the freeway because it was so stable. I have driven several without the Bilsteins and felt that they were good, but in heavy winds, hard cornering, quick stops and such then the Bilsteins were better, and that is why it is the upgrade option on the off-road, trd, and trail teams editions of FJ's. They are marketed for off-road, but I think their on-road manners shine as well.

You may be able to find a straight takeoff set from an FJ and just go with those. The springs are the same on each model, so the shocks should work just fine. Enjoy!

I am a firm believer that the right shock can make all the difference in the world. I've adjusted ride quality to softer, firmer, tighter, etc. on every SUV I've owned over the last 20 years by working with the shocks and getting a setup that was just right for me. I had a Trooper at one point that was all over the road and sounded sort of like how your XReas system worked. I replaced the shocks all around with a set of KYB Monomax shocks that made it like night and day. They were beefier, firmer, and were an all around huge upgrade. I felt a similar ride experience on the Bilsteins and feel like they just really handle the size and weight of this platform of vehicle very very well in a variety of situations, but people seem to underestimate the fact that they help out on freeway driving too.

looks good. is it just the pics or are the running boards higher in the front than the back (reverse rake)?

also how did you mess up the xreas system? did you just accidentally tug on the line? or did you deliberately unscrew the lines?

Ya, we tugged on the line and disconnected at the shock level and oil just gushed out... oh well...


The picture is probably off leveled... to me the running board is pretty straight.
