I have been on here for a few weeks and learned a hell of a lot. And got a ridiculous amount of inspiration.
This is my 4Runner that was given to me as a gift from my father-in-law. Since I have had her, I have put loads of money into it just to get her to pass emissions and be road worthy since my wife drives it when the weather is bad. All new sensors, power steering rack, drivers side headlight and corner light, as well as blinker(it was hit in a parking lot), both bumpers and rear bumper extension ends, exhaust, suspension was redone to stock specs(lift to come), brakes, intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, head gaskets, thermostat, belts, hoses, rear brake lights, New Alpine head unit, AVS window vent shades, battery, sway bar end links, drivers side fender and the main part that is holding it all together... my T4R.ORG decal. I'm sure there is more but you guys get the idea.

You know, pretty close to it but probably the best vehicle I have ever had. She was just sitting, rotting in his driveway so we bought it for a dollar. It took a couple years to get it to where she stands now. I definitely want to put a Toytec lift in it and upgrade the tires. I am trying to design a rack for the roof (I work in an iron shop) so we can go on our camping trips and still have space for the dogs inside. I also want to be able to put the spare up there too. Being under the carriage is just torture here in the salty northeast.
Slowly but surely, it will end up where I want it. A fun daily driver with capability.

I completely agree. It is such a great truck. My wife and I had 2 front wheel drive cars and it just wasn't doing it with 250lbs of dog and the winters we had been getting. I had a mechanic do all of the involved things like sensors and gaskets and suspension etc. I did the rest of what I could tackle with what time I had. Exhaust, brakes, body panels, bumpers etc.
I am hoping to keep it as a family heirloom.

And here is a pick of the running boards coming off. What a difference in look and style. Next those chromed wheel well trim pieces are gone. Gotta find another alternative.

What about putting a set of the bigger Bushwacker flares in place of the chrome ones?

I thought about the larger flares. But I don't like the look of the larger bulkier flares... like the limited. I think it makes the truck look plastic-ish. If you look in the pics I have posted, my neighbor has the red limited and I see it everyday. I just can't like them. No offense to anyone. I don't know. Maybe I will do the black highlander molding. Or maybe tape it off and use rhino lining or something. I am not one for flash. I like subdued. Even the chrome bumpers are getting to me. I may Rhino line those too:shrug:

How about just removing the chrome flare? It gives it a really clean look as long as the fender is in good shape.

I thought about that too. Gonna give it a try since they will have to come off in order to try other options.
