Yeah, maybe i'm not thinking it through but that's what I imagined. Also, mounting it high is much more risky than mounting it low/underseat. All you need is something to impede it a little to slow it down (not to a safe level, but maybe nonfatal), and lower is better for that.
For me it's just unnecessary risk.

Before I bought the wits end bracket, I did exactly what you did....screw the mounts into the plastic in the rear cubby hole, and then into one of the trays in the rear, and then into the rear jack door...its not sturdy at all. Overtime, the weight of the extinguisher either didn't hold (in the jack door) or got loose (in the tray), or started to rattle (tray and hubby hole)..... I also thought about mounting it on my molle panel, but I didn't want to risk injury in a accident.
the clamp in the picture is just a generic metal fire extinguisher clamp you can buy on amazon. You definitely want a metal clamp so your extinguisher doesn't inadvertently fall out and roll around on your floor board (or get wedged under the brake pedal).

Not if you mount it vertically. The Rago panels are stout AF and aren't going anywhere.

Nearly every Jeep I've seen has an extinguisher mounted on the roll bars. If up high was an issue wouldn't we have seen it with them?

My Wrangler had a roll bar mount that consisted of a "sock" and a few Velcro straps that wrapped around--it wasn't going anywhere.

i've always wondered how useful they are... They are starting to pop up on overlanding rigs I see on youtube.
Not sure if they are product placement BS, or actually useful..hard to tell on youtube anymore.
I'm skeptical. I've had to use a 5lb extinguisher once, and it was barely enough to put out a small kitchen grease fire.
I might buy a few just to stick it in the nooks and crannies of the 4runner

Awesome, I feel the same way and just having one in my truck is one more than I have ever carried. When I came across these I did the same thing and ordered 5 for cars and the house. One is in my garage mounted above an extenquisher that is dead. I think they are genius and glad I could share something that is helpful.

Is that clamp that holds the extinguisher from Element or did you use something else.
That clamp came with it, I know they offer some optional clamps but I didn't know they supply one with it. Its not the most secure clamp out there but it doesn't need much to hold it in place. Two of these clamps would be perfect.
Only if I never had any back seat passengers. Wouldn't want to get a face full of steel during a crash!
