fire extinguisher recall

not sure how many people have Kidde fire extinguishers but they are in the process
of recalling pretty much every one they ever made
apparently many of them fail to work or the plastic part on top breaks off
a few people have died due to the bad extinguishers. not good.
I had one in my runner and I bet some of you do too.

Just found out about this yesterday. We have 11 of our 23 extinguisher at work under this and one of the 3 in my 4Runner as well as the ones in my wife and son's trucks under this recall... Holy crap Batman!

Don't most extinguishers have a 'use by' date?

If you'e relying on an extinguisher from 1973, that's it's own set of issues...

I've been told by both a technician and fireman that as long as they're properly maintained (shake it up, monitor the charge and keep the nozzle clear) you're good.

it's also possible on some of the older models to refill and reuse them
back in the day stuff was made to keep instead of use and dispose

and it's probably cheaper to replace them all than face wrongful death lawsuits
every time one fails at the worst moment
it sucks that it takes a death to get a company to do the right thing

Yep, had one in the shop last week fail. A few sparks lit the trash can on fire and we went to put it out with the extinguisher and it sprayed for less than half a second. Luckily there were some water bottles laying around to put it out. definitely swap it out if you have one, it probably won't work.
