I am thinking about getting this in a 265/70/17 which is a 10 ply tire for my 04 runner. does anyone have any comments or opinions on this tire as far as handling in snow rain. i know it will be a rougher ride then an a/t but i want something more aggressive. i am mostly curious if the 10 ply rating is going to significantly increase the roughness of the ride.

10 ply is too heavy.
10 ply tires is an E rated load used on 3/4 ton and 1 ton diesel pick ups. It's necessary when the pick up weights over 7,000 pounds and a diesel engine is sitting on top of the front tires. However, they weight over 10 pounds more per tire than P load tires. 10 pounds per tire bouncing and oscillating rapidly is a lot of weight and mass moving up and down. More wear and tear on the suspension, more energy to move them and keep them moving. Decrease in gas mileage. They will make it significantly rougher and less pliable than even C load tires.
The MTs are not siped so your traction in rain and wet slush will degrade compared to BFG A/T KO and much worse compared to Revos. The increase in mud traction is offset by the decrease in everyday traction across the majority of your driving.
However, if you live 20 miles off on a rutted dirt road withi mud and slush 6 months of the year and broken shale the other 6 months, then I guess you'll need MT.

Another thing to add would be that driving on a lot of asphault/road surfaces will wear those tires out pretty quick. My buddy has Firestone MT's on his Wrangler and he does a lot of highway travel so his tread life is looking at about 25k, if that. Knobby tires definately look awesome but for the price of most of them compared to how bad you really need them (unless your doing some nasy offroading everyday) usually doesn't pay off in the end.
