Firm rear, need some advice

Howdy,

I am looking for some suspension advice for my 99 4runner. Check out my current suspension setup below. I have a 99 4runner with an arb front bumper on 265/75/16 wildpeaks with sleeping platform in the rear.

I am feeling like my rear suspension is much too stiff and am curious what you might recommend.

- Front
- Bilstein b8 5100 shocks
- OME 883 coils
- Rear
- OME 60027, Firm valve shocks
- OME 890 coils

I've heard nothing but bad things about OME shocks, everyone seems to gripe they're much too firm, even the softer valved ones. I would look into some Bilsteins to keep it simple and cheap

The 890’s (190 lbs) are on on the softer side when comparing stock (170 lbs) all the way to the firmest aftermarket such as the OME 861 (250 lbs). My vote is change out the shocks to something softer. If that’s still too stiff, you’d want to run stock 99 talls with a daystar spacer to achieve a softer ride with the desired ride height.

When I had 300 lbs of sandbags in the back the shocks were awesome! I just think I don’t have enough lid back there. Great shocks but they definitely need a lot of weight to show it.

Any thoughts on 5160 vs. 5100 Bilstein rears?

If money/budget ain’t a thing then there’s no reason not to get the 5160’s imo

If your into moderate/heavy wheeling I'd recommend going with the LC shocks. You get a decent bit more flex and they absorb bumps pretty well. They are slightly stiffer than the 3rd Gen bilstiens however they shouldn't be as hard as the OME which I hear are like having rigid steel pipes as your shocks.

I'm running OME 890s with LC shocks and NO additional weight and it rides great to me
