first 4runner

Hi

I'm looking to buy my first 4 runner-a 1990 SR5 V6/5 speed with 240,000 kilometers(that's around 145,000 miles). I've browsed through a few threads here, and was hoping you guys could offer me a few pointers on what to look at when I check out this truck tomorrow. I've been told it's recently had head gaskets and a clutch, but that's about all. I know from photos it's not terribly rusty, just the typical wheel arch rot. Also, what kind of mileage should a guy expect from the 3.0 V6; I've seen opinions varying from 13 to 20 litres per 100 kilometers(or 18mpg to 12 mpg)...what's your experience?

thanks in advance!

I'd check to see if the Steering Relay Rod service campaign has been performed. I'd also go over every square inch of the frame for rust. Looking at it means nothing, the frame rusts from the inside out, so by the time you can see it, it's usually real bad.

The recent HG replacement was probably due to the inherent HG problem the 3.slo has.

Mine has 316,000km's

Expect the back window to not go up and down and the tailgate to be rusted or gone completely (if you're in Canada).

Before you start it up check the oil....is it dirty, milky, low, none, too full, etc...

The gas lines, brake lines. 90's 4Runners original lines are starting to get tired.
