Hello everyone i have been drooling over this forum for about a month now and decided to join. so i have a 97 limited 4runner with the 3.4l its got factory elocker and all that good stuff. ive started a build plan for my lift tires and bumpers. one thing i have been looking for is a programmer but i cant find one that is compatible does anyone know of one?

A programmer like bullydog or edge. i have one in my dodge and would like one for my 4runner but cant seem to find one that is compatible.

they dont work on our vehicles. they are already so well tuned for power and fuel economy already, nothing more to do with timing and fuel.
 
Don't waste your money on programmer. Put it towards maintenance shit like LBJ's and tranny cooler. After that, since you want more power, get a TRD supercharger or a turbocharger (I recommend the latter).
 
If you are going to throw money away please PM me so I can give you my address instead, feel free to take postage out of what ever you are sending me. That might be a little hypocritical with all the things I have done to my truck though, but still feel free to send that cash my way. There is no need to mess with anything in the ECU on these. If you are not turbo or supercharged then do not go messing with the computer with silly chips or programmers. Your Dodge may need it, but your Toyota doesn't, and it doesn't want it.

mxer nailed it i meant daddy's dodge lol. well if im not buying a programmer im gonna put that towards my lift what would you guys recommend for suspension toyatech or rough country? i want to get 35s for it in the long run so im pretty sure 3" of suspension lift and 2 of body and they should fit. correct me if Im wrong
 
How many miles on it? Do you have any maintenance records? There's probably a few things you need to take care of before you start throwing money at modifications. First and foremost would be to figure out if the lower ball joints are in good shape. A failure can literally wreck your plans.

This is not like your dodge. 35's under our 4runners is a major upgrade. Regearing, big lift, body lift, hammering fenders and cutting firewalls. I would stick with 33's unless you plan on making this offroad rig.

This post is on point. Get it up to spec in maintenance and start mods later. If you start throwing a lift on old crap ball joints, then a failure is bound to happen. Also think about 35's before getting them. They are quite stressful on the IFS. Doing it for looks is just plain stupid. Do you really want to look like that high school kid that doesn't know WTF he's doing? That is how clean vehicles get hacked up.
 
ive figured 35s aren't just going to fit right in doing the extra there isnt a big deal. i dont want this to be some pavement princess. but at the same time i dont want to look like the dumbass who buys a jeep and puts way to big of tires on and shows everyone how much flex he has on the curb. lbjs are fine but while im doing all this work i might as well get some new ones so i dont spend a whole bunch of money to have them fail and wreck my creation. maintence has been kept up with regular oil changes and such. we bought it with 150k it know has 220k. i defiantly want function over looks. so instead of going 35s what about 33s or 31s. and does anyone run CDI bumpers and how do you like them. sorry about some of the dumb questions and seeming like some idiot high schooler whos just going to destroy there car. this is my first car and first build im doing by myself.

If you're going with a 3 inch suspension lift, 33's (285/75/16) will look great on these rigs. You will need hubcentric wheel spacers to get to full lock with no rubbing.

Definitely change the lower ball joints if you're going to lift. at 220k miles they need it. Buy OEM Toyota LBJ's ONLY. CBI Bumpers are popular around here, do a search and you'll find some members who are running them.
 
ok sweet thanks for the input. what do you think as far as tires toyo, nittos maybe swampers if i can find a good set. and i was looking for a roof rack that i could make mounts for k/c lights or a lightbar does anyone know of a good rack. sorry about all the questions i have a ton of info to learn

You sound like you have good head on your shoulder . Like stated do the major 3 is what I call i . LBJ only OEM parts. Replace radiator and external cooler to avoid pink milkshake.

After that figure your lift. If you want a wide tire that works go with 305/70r16. It's what I run. Pretty much 33" tall but as wide as a 35" tire.

As for lift front coil over setup is best if you can afford. For rear I recommend LC coils and tokico lc shocks. Best ride and flex. Research the lc lifts. Off road nothing compares.
 
so according to toyatechs website a 3" suspension lift only fits 31s but im liking the idea of 33s that are as wide as 35s is this true and if so should i do a inch of body lift? due to the fact i don't want to cut any corners i added the 3 majors to my list and im in the process of researching lc lifts. another thing that isnt necessarily important more of a personal desire i hate the fact its super quite and want it to sound a little meaner any tips?
