First Ding!

This is more of a vent than a post, but here we go. It amazes me how little respect people have for other people's vehicles. Since picking up the new 4R in November I've been extra careful with where I park.

The other night I made a quick trip out to the local Jersey Mike's Sub Shop. The little strip mall it's in was bare so for once I parked right in front of their window. As I was waiting for my order a young girl came in with that I hate the world look, you know the type mid-twenties desperate to get married before she loses her looks altogether. Anyway, when I went out to my truck there's her little white cavalier pasted with do good bumper stickers parked way too close to me. I thought for a moment of waiting to watch her try to get into her car and then was like okay there's no way she would open her car door into mine right in front of the window so off I went. The next morning what do I find but a ding with white paint on it right where her Driver's side door would have been. She hit it good too, this one is going to require some touch up paint.

I just don't get it, even when I could hardly afford beer money in my 81 Fiat Strada I'd always respect someone else's car, but it seems anymore people just don't care. Okay, thanks for reading me vent.

Sorry to hear about your ding. I feel your pain. What pisses me of most is not the ding itself, but the fact that those people don't even care about denting other peoples vehicles.....

Yes I also share your pain, I went to Safeway one night there was a homeless person asking for money I ignored him when I came out I had a big scratch on my drivers side door.

Got my first Grrr at 600 miles. Still had the temp tags from the dealer on the truck. Parked in a Fuddruckers parking lot for lunch and came out to find that someone had hit the side of my truck when trying to pull into their parking space. All of the damage was to the soft pieces around the rear wheel well, so it's not too big of a deal. However, after 3+ years and several coats of touch up paint I still get pissed off every time I wash the truck and look at the scratches they left behind.

Sorry to hear about your ding. The first one always hurts the most, especially when somebody else is responsible for it. Unfortunately, this happens all too frequently. People just don't respect other peoples property. I know exactly how you feel, I had a person hit mine in the back when I had it for exactly 7days. They left a nice dent in my back gate and scratched my bumper. Of course they took off, and let me have the pleasure of finding it myself. Some people have absolutetly no respect for other people's property.

Oddly enough in Europe, the parking spaces are very close together, Im talking like maybe 12 inches between cars when parked, and yet they do not ding each others doors. And most of these cars are BMWs, VWs and so on and so on. (not chevy cavaliers)

I would be willing to bet that if we had a law in the states that would allow someone to kick the crap out of the person and/or their vehicle (if caught in the act or had evidence) that non-sense would stop...

sorry for your frustration, I feel your pain, Im on like 7 or 8 dings and or scratches on both sides.

I got my first minor scratch on the right front door when my truck was just two weeks old. I parked in the enclosed deck at Richmond Int'l Airport -- at the last space on the end, to boot. Apparently, though, that was not quite good enough. Someone got me - Doh!

The second scratch was caused by me when I was loading something into the right-front door and put about a one-inch scratch on the front edge of the rear door.

Both are nearly invisible unless you look pretty hard, but I know they are there and it pizzes me off every time I move my eyes toward that part of the vehicle.

But overall, my 4Runner looks great for 21,000 miles and more than two years of age. She'll be with me until January when the lease expires, and I want to keep things looking great until then.


P.S. Roger that about Europe! Folks over there seem to be more respectful of other people's cars (and other property) and drivers are much more considerate than here in the US. They have their share of socialists across the pond and I would rather live here than anywhere else, but they got a few things right.

Misery Loves Company

Thanks all for the support. Big picture there's a lot of people dealing with much, much worse, but sometimes it's the simple things that ticks you off.

Mark86 how did you react to finding a car under your bumper?

HiVel-JR- that's a great idea for a law, maybe if we could somehow tax them as well we could get the bill to pass.

I wonder if there's a car alarm out there that will go off when someone opens a door into your car etc? Maybe that would make people think twice.

I was EXTREMELEY angry!! I called the police because it was so dark and I couldn't tell if there was damage. I didn't feel like shelling out money for another sport bumper if it was cracked.

Wow......if that happened to me, that car wouldn't look at all like a crown vic after I'd be done with it.....not kidding.
Parking it on your bumper...and then not even moving it.....wow, thats something else.
