First gen climate control levers

So the lever on my "temp control" is frozen and won't budge. It's stuck in the hot position. Has been this way since I bought it and am just now getting to looking into it. Anyone have any experience fixing this problem? Have done a lot of research online and it seems that these climate controls are known of being faulty in toyotas. But all I've found is that the arm moves and has no resistance and doesn't do anything which everyone says it's a cable. But my lever actually won't move at all. Anyone have any fixes?

Could be corroded in place, could be the cable is frozen and needs broken free, could be just something bent. Take it apart and find out.

Start with the valve on the firewall. Disconnect the cable from it and see if it moves freely. If not, there's your trouble, and if it does, you know your trouble is the cable or in the selector in the dash.

It's probably the flapper on the the firewall that is frozen. Whatever you do, do not try and force the slider in the dash.There are two plastic pieces in there that hold the whole works together. If you force too much they will explode inside the dash and you will have to pull most of the dash out to fix it. I spray the ends of the cables with silicon on a regular basis.

Anyone have any source for a new "selector" or "lever" for the climate controls? as far as I have looked, NO ONE makes new ones. The PO had actually pulled and bent the cable that comes out of the firewall to the heater control valve. The control valve was seized up and instead of buying a new one they just shoved the wire further through the firewall to make more pressure on the control valve so it would still move. This bent the actual lever on the selector in the dash. The 2 cables that connect to that lever won't work properly anymore and the lever is sloppy because of the cheap plastic clip that Toyota used to fasten the selector arm is lose and won't stay tight. really irritated that I can't find ANY new parts for this. And the used ones I find are WAY over priced for an old used part. I have completely dismantled the dash and it's down to bare bones. Trying to source some parts quick to get this fixed right so that I don't have to re-do this process ever again lol! That dash was a PITA to get apart.

As far as I know, the only place you'll find a "new" one is from Toyota, and that's iffy, and if they still have them you'll probably pay an arm and a leg. They should be cheap enough at a pick and pull, or from a guy parting out a wrecked truck.

Problem is here in TN at our junk yards IF a Toyota truck is sent to the junk yard within a day the parts are stripped. There is a lot of people stripping Toyota trucks and 4runners here in the south and shipping the parts to Guatemala. So it's really hard to find any part at all at junk yards around here without paying a ton for it.

I've actually found the whole control unit in madisonville TN. Going to work with it this weekend and see if I can fix it, if not I'll be going to get it Sunday. Thanks through, will definetly keep you in mind if I need anything else!
