First Post!! 2006 Pricing Question...

I have been a member of this site for a little over a month now and appreciate all the great information contained here. I have wanted to purchase a 4 Runner for the past year now. Until now though, I just could not afford to financially swing it. I am only 2 years out of law school, so I still have significant school loans.

Anyway, I test drove a 2006 Silver Sport Edition V6 4x4 yesterday. I did not get into pricing with the saleperson yet, but I am wondering how much you think I could get it for. It had a 6 disc CD player, the double decker thing in the back, and rear spoiler. That is about all I noticed.

I know I definitely want the Sport Edition V6 4x4. However, I would like to have a nav system and possible the rear seat DVD system for the kids. I could probably live without these though. Do you think I should just special order an 2007 with the nav system and DVD for the kids? Anyone have the rear seat DVD?? How good is the picture quality and what size is the screen??

Also, which color is the best at not showing scratches? I would imagine its the Titanium Metallic, but I would like to hear from the owners.

I appreciate any feedback you may provide!!

If there's a 2006 that meets your criteria, you'll get a good deal on it with rebates and because the dealer wants to clear their inventory. The selection will be limited. You should be able to get the truck for invoice, but check KBB and Edmund's.

If you want to have specific options, then you'll have to order a 2007. If you find a good dealer, they should let you take advantage of any rebates during the time of delivery. I ordered mine November 2005, no rebates at the time, but got the $1500 rebate when I took delivery in February.

Light colors, white or silver will hide scratches the best. Dark colors like black will show the greatest depth (best mirror effect), but will be higher maintenance and more suspectible to swirls.

Here's member matoolie's 2006 SE with nav and RSES.

If somebody still has an 06 on the lot, you should be able to get it at or below what KBB or Edmunds lists as Invoice Price (including the destination charge), and then you can tack on rebates/incentives after that. But don't go to the dealer and tell them you want "x below invoice" - walk in with a specific dollar amount in mind and work from there. Otherwise, you'll get into a debate over the definition of "invoice price", which of course will be more than what you planned.

I have both the NAV and rear DVD system. The system works and looks great. The rear DVD player has it own controls, or you can use the remote, or you can use the NAV to control the DVD player. Using the NAV is great if have small kids who can't work the remote. Also the DVD will play on the NAV screen when truck is in park and parking brake is ON. The rear screen is 9" widescreen. 2 wireless headphones are included also that are stored in the rear door pockets. Here are some pics from a previous post of mine. Cant tell DVD picture quality from them though.

I Also got titanium color. Good overall color. Doesn't show every spec of dirt and doesn't get real hot in sun.

Definitely try and find 2006 b/c you will get a better price. If are thinking about ordering one, make sure you can get what you want as I think some dealers only will order options available to the region. Mine was special order as a family member is a Toyota employee and got employee price. Special ordering options can be pricey.....the sticker on mine was $40k (see my big options in my sig). Probably one of the highest stickers out there for Sports. Don't ask what I paid because I am not allowed to say. :)
