first road trip in the new 4R

Took a solo trip (wife and kids out of town) to Yosemite national forest this weekend to break in the new 4runner and get some camping and hiking in. Little over 400 mi. round trip the new PRO was a great companion for my excursion.

Very impressed with everything about the truck except for the handling around corners. I would have to say the truck ranks poorly (handling only) when compared to other vehicles I have driven, even worse than my Tundra PRO. I had to take the switchbacks slow on evelation changes, granted they were somewhat extreme curves (hwy 120); I had little confidence in the truck and had a few tailgaters behind me that wanted to go faster than I could go. Sounds like something the KDSS would have really helped with but its rare I drive a road like this.

I received a lot of compliments on the truck while in the campsite and what a great conversation starter to meet many cool people. These are great trucks to own. Looking forward to many more fun adventures.

When I got mine, I found it to be the worst curve-handling SUV that I've ever owned including a Grand Wagoneer, 3 XJ Cherokees, 2 TJ Wranglers, one JK Unlimited Rubicon, and 2 Suburbans. However, once I learned how it transitions and at what points the stability control kicks in, I found I can push it pretty good through the twisties. One of the roads nearby that I travel quite a bit is a fairly famous stretch called The Dragon (318 curves in 11 miles). I find that I can run off and leave most normal vehicles and most Harleys, Goldwings, and whatever the adult tricycles are. Those that have any clue will pull over and let me pass as is customary on this road. And I do have to pull over for the occasional sports car and most of the sports bikes. It helps to know the road, but overall, now that I've learned the handling traits I am pretty confident with the 4R in the corners.

I've been on the Killboy highlights a few times, have dozens of photos of various times up there in my Miatas. One of my Dragon pics even made the cover of a performance parts catalog.
