First time buyer needs advice!

So I am trying to break into the world of working under the hood and from what I have read four runners are about as straight forward as SUVs get. I am looking very hard for a 1986 (year I was born). Is this a good idea? Are there any issues in particular I should be looking out for?

for a 86 I would just say screw it and get an 85. Strait axle factory. Better for wheeling down the road. just my .02

But they are easy to work on and hard to kill
