First trip in my 4Runner

Took my first semi long distance trip in the 4Runner during the week. Went up to check out the fall colors in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan from Indiana and came back down for a couple days to get the windows tinted and take care of a few other things. Will be going back up on Monday to continue the the tour around the area shooting timelapse.

Grabbed a few shots you guys might like.

I sleep in the back of the truck when I'm on the road, so here's a look at what my "bedroom" is like haha.

Years ago I took the family on a 5-day tour there, including Mackinac Island, Sault Saint Marie, Whitefish Bay and the Maritime Museum (Edmund Fitzgerald), Upper and Lower Tahquamanon Falls (we walked the trail from lower to upper), Marquette, Lake of the Clouds and other spots. Beautiful.

That was during the summer when school was out. Can only imagine how beautiful it is now with the fall colors.

This was a 30-second exposure. ISO was at 5000 and aperture at f/2.8. 14mm lens.

Went back up for a few days and got some great shots while I was out there. Got treated to a light show as well

UP is absolutely gorgeous, we used to go up there for family vacations.

Went out the first day and got some awesome shots of waterfalls and fall colors. Unfortunately, the gravel and dirt roads caused a leak in my poor road tires and I woke up to a flat.

Quickly put on the spare and started off to the nearest larger town, Marquette and ordered some proper tires. The next day they threw on these BFGs and I started back on some awesome roads.

I also got this shot of it attempting to camouflage itself with the night sky.

ISO 5000 sounds a bit high though, i shot this at ISO 320 f/4 30s.

you have a better camera body i bet you could drop the ISO down, no?

i sleep in my car on roadtrips too. the 4Runners are surprisingly comfy. how many miles did you put on for the trip?

It looks like there is moonlight in your image, allowing you to either reduce exposure time or lower ISO. There is no moonlight in the photos I've posted so far. Increasing the ISO allows me to gather more light to expose the darker areas as well as the stars.

I've been doing astro for a while and anywhere from 3200-6400 is a good ISO for dark skies.

I just got a sweet self inflating camping pad that fits perfect on one side of the back. So now I throw that on one side with a blanket over it and then sleep in my sleeping bag on it. The other side is all my gear piled up almost spilling over onto me while I'm sleeping haha.

My trick was the dog pad fits perfectly .
