Fix a problem, ANOTHER ARISES!

So, we got a cold front in texas, (we dont get winter, just cold fronts). Anyway, I replaced the radiator in septish, and its been running perfect. However it gets to normal operating temp in the driveway, (halfway, a little less than 1/2). Then I get 2 miles down the road and its super cold. The needle is where it would be if the truck had been off for 24 hours, and its shifting into 1st hard. I pulled over, and it warms back up to normal temp... then same thing, drive a bit and it gets super cold. Its only in the 40-50s here

Any ideas?

Pretty simple, gets warm in driveway, you drive a few miles, t-stat opens and cold coolant from the radiator starts circulating so gauge and ECM temps drops. Drop in coolant temp sends auto trans into warm-up mode so O/D doesn't kick in until it warms back up.
Your cooling system is working much better than before, what temp t-stat did you put in?
Also, make sure coolant is full and there are no air pockets in system.

Thanks for the quick response. I just put in the cheap autozone brand Tstat. Coolant is also full. I guess try another t-stat?

Look at the temp and not just the brand. I'm pretty sure the FSM calls for a 180. If I'm wrong, someone will speak up.
 
verify that it's actually the temp it says. I don't know if the temp sending unit for the gauge is a positive or negative coefficient type but perhaps it gets to a specific spot and ends up putting out the same resistance as it would cold.
 
The only thing I can think of would be thermo stat or air in the system. I believe we are suppose to use a 190 degree thermostat which helps the auto stay in O/D.

Other then that I would say put a funnel on radiator with some antifreeze in funnel and squeeze your top and bottom hose and see if any air bubbles come out.

Everyone else has overheating issues and your trucks staying to cool!
 
Jack your front up in the air and run it with the radiator cap off, it is "supposed" to help get bubbles out. I have never tried it myself but have heard of people doing it.
