Fix page widening due to pictures.

This must have come up before but there is an absolute epidemic lately of multiple picture insertions causing huge page widening issues. Kind of getting out of control. (I'm assuming it's some sort of forum posting software doing this from cellphones or something)

Rather than having to have users (or admins) bark at other users to fix their posts constantly, how about have the software just auto arrange the pictures so they don't widen the page. Or simply display a single image only width wise regardless of the user (or posting software) inserting a linefeed between the tags or not?

I thought it was maybe just me, or an iPad thing. I figured the 4Runner Forum must be designed for a desktop computer - that there was no mobile app. yet.

Often, I'll view several pages of a thread with no problem, and suddenly, the next page is 5 screens wide, with extremely tiny print size. Very frustrating!

I am no longer computer savvy enough to suggest a fix, but the fact that this is NOT a problem on other forums I visit, suggests that it should be easy for the software wizards out there.

How 'bout it? ......... can we get this fixed?
 
There is a setting in Administrator setup to automatically resize pictures. It just needs to be checked.

no matter if it auto resizes or not, if the people don't put a line between their pictures, and run them in the same line, it will still scroll the page horizontally.


as a mod on another site, I have spent a LOT of time correcting that issue, simply by hitting ENTER after the IMG tag.

My recent post consists of a line space between each photo:

There is a setting that allows the vbulletin software to auto resize, and reduce the picture to fit. Users can then click on the picture to have it open in a new window full size. The photo that is causing the scroll in my thread, stated above, has been on the FJCruisers forums countless times, resized by the forum software.

I agree with your assessment of the line between, however, in this case, I think the resize feature is either off, or not available due to software version, etc.
 
I typically don't like the resize feature because it makes the images way too small. Would be nice if it only resized images > 1024 px wide maybe...

But still, since there is already some preparse before posting by the software, is seems like it could also verify that there was a CR after each image tag. Text gets put way out at the end of a photo too if there is no CR (BR, whatever) after the image tag. It would fix that case too...
 
I came here to suggest the same thing and was happy to see that this thread was on the top of the list. This is the only forum that I frequent that doesn't auto resize. It's horribly annoying to have to horizontally scroll to get to the page numbers.
 
Sorry guys I know I'm guilty of this. Of course I rarely use my laptop, or desktop. In Tapatalk my pics look normal then I OCCASIONALLY check desktop and I'm like Dmn Daniel those pix be huge

Amen, please fix this! Or it might be time for a responsive design / theme. ADVrider.com was pretty similar to t4r and annoying with the pics and they upgraded a year or 2 ago now is one of the nicest forums to use. Easy to attach or insert pics as well. Might be worth a look.
 
You can use custom CSS to "fix" the issue

img.attach {
width: 100%;
display: block;
}

It will fix the width of the image to fit the screen and basically put a line break between images.

Most browsers have some kind of custom CSS add-on or extension where you can fix a lot of CSS issues

It seems pretty clear they don't care about the pictures not sizing correctly and the website not being a responsive design or don't have a coder to fix it.

This also cost more money in bandwidth charges too BTW ;): :)
 
In the short term it's cheaper to pay for the bandwidth than for a developer to fix all of the site's issues. If they cared about any of these issues, they would've fixed it already. If users finally start leaving because this forum is so outdated, they'll start to fix it, but it might be too late then.
 
Most of vBulletin stuff has either a setting or a plugin to fix/customize. I suspect that due to the size and complexity of the board, maybe one person on staff?, it's always baby steps. Of course another large CGI board I frequent has mandatory down time for updates, they're usually only down for an hour or so every other month, I know they have a few folks the administer the backend.
