Fj Cruiser side mirrors with integrated lights are awesome, I was wondering if anyone has tried to modify them to fit on a 4Runner, specifically 3rd gen. It is a project I will likely try as the mirrors can be found at junkyards for around $100 for a pair. If any one has tried this mod and has pictures or experience it would be appreciated. Thanks

The FJ mirrors are really oddly proportioned... they would look really weird on a 3rd gen IMO

besides the proportions thats not a bad job on photoshop though! i almost believed it haha good job michael! I know VLEDs sells a really bright bulb that fits in the mirrors and it wold be a killer DRL!
michael833 - nice try on the photo editing, that is a good idea, I think I may spend a little time in my favorite photo editor, maybe take a pic of my 4Runner square on and try to get the proportions perfect just to get an idea before I go all out.
Rc4r - that may be a better alternative if the FJ mirrors look odd, I didnt think of moding the stock mirrors but I wonder if the electrical in the 3rd gen 4Runner mirrors could handle a aux light or some extra power would have to added?

IMO, the FJ's mirrors are much too large, square, and bulky. They will not look right on a 3rd gen. They will not follow the lines of the 3rd gen at all, and will look out of place.
That said, I'd be very interested to see how it turns out. You never know, maybe I'll swap mirrors with my wife's FJ and my 4Runner? Not likely!

they'd be bigger in proportion to the 4th gen. dunno about the 5th.if i were going to do this i'd almost be half tempted to cut the light out of the fj mirror and graft it into mine.
The angle is off on the 4th gen pic but it is closer to accurate than the 5th. By proportion the FJ mirror is roughly half the height of the side window. You will notice that the mirror is roughly half the height of the a pillar. It's about as close as its going to get without a cad drawing or me doing it in real life.
I thought about grafting the light into the 4runner but that is beyond my auto body skill level. I would like to see someone do it, but for now I'm working on the FJ mirror swap.

What is the point of those lights in the mirrors? They're rather small, dim, and don't light up a whole hell of a lot, compared to the headlights. I had a FJ behind me tonight after reading this at work, and noticed that you can't even see them with the head lights on. is it strictly cosmetic, or do they serve a purpose?
Now, this, on the other hand, would be pretty BAMF.

My exact thoughts. I think if you were able to use the side mirrors we have already and put some badass LED's in em it would be awesome. I'm not a fan of the FJ side mirrors on our trucks, kinda looks like they don't belong on the truck. IMO they look a little funny. But, I might change my opinion if I see it done.
