FJ Foglight switch wiring

I know, there's a ton of threads out there that explain how to hook up one of these switches. I think I'm missing something, though.

I hooked up the switch this weekend to the new 30" LED bar. The switch works as expected with the exception with the dash dimmer. I hooked into the AC switch on the dash and when I dim the dashboard to a very low setting my new FJ switch backlighting turns off and the lit indicator turns on, even though the switch isn't activated.

Can someone share some specifics as to how they hooked up the illumination wires? I obviously have it hooked up wrong.

To provide examples, Pin 1 is the interior lighting power and Pin 2 is the ground for said power. Does anyone know what the hooked 1 and 2 up to?

I can't tell you without opening mine up right now but I thought it tied into the whatever wires were the same color on another switch. I used my heated seat switches but all of them should be on the same illumination circuit.

Looks like the positive is connected to green on mine and negative to white with black stripe.

So, I originally had it set to that, purple (fj switch) to green (on ac switch) and then I had the brown (fj switch) to white with black stripe but then the dimming doesn't work at all. Currently I have the brown connected to black with green stripe and I get the issue as above.

Where did you get black with green stripe from?

You should also be able to connect the brown to a common ground, like what you have the solid black connected to.

edit - what is the red/blue connected to?

Brown and black spliced together which go to the ground. Those two are spliced with the white with green strip from the AC switch.

The fj switch purple wire is spliced to a predominately green wire also from the AC switch.

Red/green and red/blue are spliced together.

Red/green goes through the firewall to the post 86 on the relay.

So, I believe i have this configured as described but there's no back lighting.

The way I get backlighting to work on the switch with the dimmer is by hooking the FJ switch purple wire to the AC 115V green wire and the FJ brown wire to the AC 115V white with green. In that scenario it dims the switch to a certain point but then the indicator light starts to dim up while the other switches on the dash continue to dim down. Also at that point the indicator light is on even when the switch isn't on.

Has anyone hooked this switch up to the AC 115V switch? If so, which wires did you connect and to where? Any other ideas why this might not be working like the AC 115V switch?

Sean I think you're just going to have to troubleshoot this on your own. Pretty much everyone else who has used this switch has used mine and Kevin's instructions (really Kevin's instructions since I followed his lead).

Unless there is something wrong with the switch itself you must have something connected wrong and not realize it. The illumination and indicator/trigger wires are on two completely different circuits (that's why the switch requires two separate grounds and positives) and there's no reason one should affect the other as you're describing unless there's a short in the switch harness.
