FJ lift issues *Help*

Hey guys, I'm consulting the brain trust because I'm having some issues with my suspension. I have theories but that's all.

So I used the OME springs and 5100s along with custom end links from a forum member. When I installed the front setup we had to stand on the lugs to get fitment.

Now, less than 15000 miles later, the end links are spewing grease and the bushings on the 5100s have pushed through so that it is metal on metal in the front. Back has 0 issues.

My theory is that the UCAs are too short which was why it was so tough to fit in the first place and due to limiting maneuverability has caused the mounts to push through the bushings. But I am not a suspension guy so that's only a thought.

I could really use some help figuring out what caused this because I don't want to be replacing shocks every few thousand miles.

What about your setup has FJ components?

They are all interchangeable with the 4Runner parts if that is what you are worried about.

The shocks are the Bilstein 5100s for the FJ and the OME springs are for a FJ.

My concern is why am I eating through shock bushings since they're all interchangeable, ya know?

And honestly I don't remember what setting the 5100s are on, I'd need to look.


Using the 5100s on OME should be on "0" setting if using 885s. Not advisable shocks for 886s. Why I ask what springs you have.

Besides if you had the perch upside down as others are asking, you would probably be seriously nose high, let alone trying to put them together/compress them like that.

I used the 885s because they support the 110lbs+ and I knew I was going to install the C4 Fab bumper and Smitty winch which wouldn't be enough weight to justify the 886.
 
Assuming all the parts you have will work for a 4Runner...

So I used the OME springs and 5100s along with custom end links from a forum member. When I installed the front setup we had to stand on the lugs to get fitment. If you loosen the LCA bolts, it will swing down far enough to get the lower shock mount in. You shouldn't have to stand on anything.

Now, less than 15000 miles later, the end links are spewing grease this makes me think the end links are too long or too short or stock length but you didn't install a sway bar relocation bracket and the bushings on the 5100s have pushed through so that it is metal on metal in the front. Are you sure they installed the washers properly? I don't know why else you'd be eating through the bushings. You should have shock, washer, bushing, top hat, bushing, washer, nut. Back has 0 issues.

The UCAs might be too short to get your caster into spec, but if you can install the coilover when there's no load on the suspension, then the UCA should move back away once it's under load.

When I was still on 885s had the billies also, noticed the bushing were wearing out like yours are seeing, not quite metal to metal though.

Honestly, dont think billies handle these springs to well on the bushing part, they felt comfy for them.
And they definitely cant handle 886s.

Is there a better shock for it that you know of?
 
Hold on here. I looked at your pictures and your lower bushing isn't that bad.
I do see that the top nut isn't tightened down securely.

It looks like the top nut isn't tightened down all the way because the bushing and washer are missing. Maybe I can't see it because of the angle of the picture, but OP, do you have the bushing there? Should look like this...

If there is no bushing at the top that would explain why the bottom bushings are wearing out so fast. Good catch.

Yep, it would be moving up and down on the top, why hes hearing metal on metal.



OP.... get us a picture showing the top , move your camera up some.
