FJ spring & shock questions

Hi all, I just pickup a set of 2010 FJ stock springs & shocks off abay. It's arrived today and I found something to be odd when I look at the FRONT springs. One spring is 3/4 coil longer than the other, that make it appx. an inch taller when stand next to the other. It's also much beefier,too. I measured with a caliper which turned out to be appx. 1.5 mm thicker.
The rear set is identical in lenght and thickness.
I think the front spring are mix match, but I really need you guys help before I contact the seller. Any inputs is greatly appriciated.

BTY, here are the part number of the shocks, can someone verify if these are what you use to replace your leaky XREAS shocks. Thanks
Front: Toyota Tokiko 48510-35400
Rear: Toyota Tokiko 48530-35210

this one is a slam dunk. the bigger spring goes on the drivers side to compensate for the weight of driver and gas tank. you are good to so go ahead and toss them in.

Thanks for the quick response. Just off the phone with a friend at Toyota dealer, He couldn't verify the odd spring nor the Tokico shock part number since toyota use their own number in the parts database. His advice is to take them to the dealer for a tech to look at it this weekend.

you got a photo of the springs with colors and the shocks too? I think you are set to go.

ARK_SWAMP_RIDER maybe you can chime in on this too if you read this one.

810 MOTO is right. I saw a similar post of someone who did the swap and didn't notice the difference and realized his error after the install. Good luck with the installation. I am about to do the same in about a week or two.

Hate to say it but it was me. I installed them, and had about 1" lean left/right. Took it apart and swapped sides, now they are within 1/8". Pretty big difference. However, with mine, it was barely noticeable on the visibile difference. The difference was much less than what you are describing. They are color coded, mine are green/orange on the drivers side, green/gray on the passengers side. Others have noted green/yellow as drivers as well. Either way, longer one goes to the driver's side.

That's good info. Thanks. My FJ springs are being shipped by FedEx Ground. Can't wait to have them installed.

Yes! I took some pics of both springs and shocks. Our truck has only 52k on it and I have not seen any leaks atleast the last time I checked. I just get everythings ready when the time comes. BTW, thanks so much for the link from the other post. It makes the job easier with some well documented visual aids like that.

Uh! My was difference color than your. the beefier spring has PURPLE/ WHITE pain while the the skinny spring has PURPLE/ ORANGE paint on it. Well, may be Toyota uses difference spring & shock all together for 2010 FJ ??????

I believe the 2010 is different. When looking at the OEM parts diagram, it lists 07-09 and 2010 seperate, and the prices are also different between them. I've not known of anyone using the 2010 springs.

Also, I just noticed you have a 2wd. I'm not sure, so I'll ask: will that make a difference in the lift gained? I think it will, but how much I'd be afraid to guess. I would think you should get more lift than a 4x4, anyone else want to comment on that?

Looks like you are ready to rock and roll. Just be careful not to strip that lame piece at the top of the shock. I used a heavy duty set of vise grips and squeezed the snot out of it in order to break the nut loose and then again to tighten it up. Be sure and get you a tube or two of the red loctite and put it on everything with threads. Don't forget also the 14mm wrench you will love in order to get the nut removed from the top of the front towers. The front two you should be able to hit with a rachet. Get a torque wrench also. If you need ft lb specs let me know, I've got them and can send them to ya. Best of luck and keep us posted.
Take you time and enjoy the day beefing up the Runner.

Thanks alot for your offerring and valuable advices. Infact, I was just garthering all the parts needed while waiting for XREAS to leaks. However, after reading many posts related to the FJ springs changeover, I've decided to ditch the XREAS for the FJ suspension swap in the next couple weeks or so. BTW, I may need the torque spec before I pull the trigger. Please post it here so everyone will have access to it. Thanks in advance for your helps. I'll try to take some pics before and after.

2010 FJC Springs & Shocks installed

After a week of debating & hesitation. I finally pulled the trigger this morning. I'm so glad that I did, because 3 out of 4 shocks are leaking (Both rear shocks are very wet and the front lest is slightly wet). This seems to be odd because I had the truck inspected in May when it was in for alignment, and the service tech reported the suspension system is in good shape.
It was appx. 49k miles back then and is 53,700 miles now. I'd expected the system will last at least 75k-100k miles or so.
Anyway, I borrowed a high lift at a friend's shop and get the job done in less than 3 hrs with a little assistant from him. The bottom end of the FRONT shock is a little wider (40mm vs. 39mm) and the top end of the REAR shock's washer is a hair larger than the mounting hole that required some modification (grind it down for the front & inlarge the hole for the rear) and they will fit perfectly. A little disappointed due to the front is too high that made the nerf bar about an inch higer than infront and is leaning toward the rear, other than that I'm extremely happy with the results. Thanks again to Chris ( CJ) & Jason (810moto) for your valuable info. Sorry, no pic at the shop due to time limitation and shop owner's policy.

Here are the results:
Distance from the wheel well to the ground.
Before:
FL= 32. 3/4 FR= 33. 00
RL= 35. 5/8 RR= 35. 5/8
After:
FL= 35. 00 FR= 34. 15/16
RL= 36. 1/8 RR= 36. 1/8

Driving impression:
1. The whole system is alot firmmer compared to the XREAS.
2. It's cornering alot better, too. I did not try to push it too far since I'm not sure its capabilities.
3. Speed pump test is very impressive. Firm, quiet and NOT hash at all.:frog:
