FJ springs and 5100s done..... but

Of those that have done this, how many experienced

1. leaky lower ball joints
2. slight rattle (hopefully needs to settle in)

I hope this goes away and my mechanic said not to worry and drive it a couple of weeks and it will go away. BTW it has 104,000 miles on it so I know this would have been probable.

Other than that, I absolutely love how it rides and handles, much better than stock, I also put airlift bags in the rear.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Good to see you're happy with that setup. I did mine at ~130k miles if I remember correctly, neither of those issues. Have 148k now and still no noise/rattles at all.

It almost sounds like something is loose, and I live in an area where we get a lot of snow and there was some rust. As far as the ball joints go, I just wonder if it is just from being taken apart and moved around. There was not a lot of grease just a little coming out the side. I am going to keep driving it for a couple more days and if it does not get any better it will go back in. I just would not think that the minute change of the fj springs would change everything else in the suspension. Quite honestly I really hope nothing is wrong.

Problem solved, had a loose sway bar nut.. As far as the lower ball joints it is a non-issue, just a result from the change.

My overall lift is as follows;

Before:
PS front 33 1/4"
DS front 33"
PS rear 35 5/8"
DS rear 35 1/4"

After:
PS front 35"
DS front 34 5/8"
PS rear 37 1/4"
DS rear 36 3/4"

Just curious, what setting did u set te 5100's to in the front? I just bought my FJ springs from a guy on the FJC forum yesterday and I'm ordering my 5100's next pay check. Stoked to get it done on my rig.

I set them at the .85 setting. I actually did not lose much of the stock rake, but that is how I wanted it since I do tow often in the summer. I don't understand why toyota did not just have this set up available stock with the 4runner. IMO it is a better ride than stock and no longer looks like mom's grocery getter.

I also set to 0.85 (had mine done this weekend) and would not go any higher. I have only .75 inch of rake between rear and front, and I also prefer a little rake. I could actually use a bit more as the 4Runner sometimes looks to me like the rear is lower - even though it's not - and I would like a little more front-end nose dive when braking.

Many do not like "rake" but vehicles are built that way for better handling and control.
