FJ80 Rear Shock Input Please

Hey guys,
I'm running ToyTec Superflex coils in the rear of my '01, and am thinking about trying the OEM FJ80 shocks.
I had the 33-187174 5100 on my '97 with the same coils, and they felt a little "underdampened" to me.
I lifted a friend's '14 SR5, and sold her the 5100 for her rig. I had some OEM '04 TRD Tundra 4800 that I wanted to try anyway. THOSE WERE THE WORLDS WORST SHOCK FOR A 4RUNNER!!!
Long story kinda short- I've been running the OEM Tokico shocks from the '14 on the rear since I got it running- almost two weeks ago.
I gotta say- I LOVE the 5th gen Tokico's! They aren't long enough though. I am hoping the FJ80 Tokicos are similarly valved/set up, and will be exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm hoping to find a guy(or gal) or two running the FJ80 Tokico's with something other than LC coils or 861. I know the LC coils are pretty firm, and the Superflex are pretty soft.
Anyone here able to give me input on these?

Side note-
For stock rigs wanting to eliminate the sag, I would SERIOUSLY recommend finding some 5th gen rear coils AND shocks. Such a great setup for a stock height rig, and can be found all day long- for cheap- on craigslist!

I sat and debated between getting the fj80 tokicos or getting some stock replacement rancho rs5000 shocks for the same landcruisers. Long story short the ranchos were in my work's warehouse and I got them next day compared to waiting a few days from online. Im pretty happy with the ranchos and I'm sure I would've been happy with the tokicos too.

I have OME 890 springs and LC Tokico blacks. They ride great. Unknown mileage on the shocks though

I'm running LC rear shocks with a set of 861's and I love them. I think the ride is perfect for the rear of my truck.

FJ80 Shocks

My uncle(owyheerat) has put on the OEM fj80 shocks (new from Toyota) and I don't know everything but he has mentioned that they are a little bit stiffer than he wanted them to be. You will also be paying $10 PER bushing WASHER! $40 for 4 washers is pretty pricy IMHO. But he likes using all OEM when he can which is not a negative but if your going OEM it's not cheap. The FJ80 shocks are extremely beefy though and have extra plates welded on for protection at least on OEM they are. IMO I would go with $30 kyb shocks for the fj80 but then again I'm 16 and half broke lol.

To recap:
OEM FJ80 Shock:
-A little stiffer
-Very Very Beefy
-OEM bushing washers are extremely overpriced IMHO ($40)

KYB FJ80 Shock:
-I have not used the FJ80 shock but have used other KYB shocks and for the price they work pretty awesome!
-Cheaper ($30)
-Comes with all Hardware
-Though they are not as beefy as far as I know

All in all if your for using only OEM then you will probably get a better longevity but at a definite price.

I'm running them with 861's so my input on ride won't matter much to you. Basically when I did my research the LC shock is a pretty stiff shock on a 4Runner. Makes sense since the LC is a heavy pig.

In relation to the washer point, yes OEM are $10 each for the upper and lower washer that sandwhich the bushings, but you can use large grade 8 washers and they'll do the same thing for 1/8th the cost. That's what I did.

Another thing to not is the LC shocks have a much larger centering washer (Not included). You can either: 1) drill out your shock mount to take the larger LC centering washer, 2) run the LC shock with 4Runner centering washer, but the LC shock will start to wear through the 4Runner centering washer and wallow it out. Mine just did this and starting a horrible squeak as the shock shaft was rubbing on the frame mount. This was after 40k miles.

If I continue to run these shocks I'll replace the washers every 30k miles or so. I don't think it caused any issues to the shock mount hopefully. If it did I can always just drill it out and run the LC centering washer, which is what I was trying to avoid. Then you can't run 4Runner shocks, but that just gives you a reason to outboard your shocks

OME 890 here with stock LC shocks. Ran the 5100s prior, really like the ride of the stock LCS. Firm, but not as much as the 5100s. Feels a little cushier with good control and the length seems just about spot on.

Why do people think lc coils are firm? From my experience they are softer than any ome you can run. They also don't handle much weight.

Not sure, as I haven't even ran them. I thought you were one of the guys that said they are pretty firm until you have a load of some sort.

Firmer when paired with Tokicos. They are pretty soft with billys.

SS even told me when buying the coils from him I would get a stiffer firmer ride on the highway with less sway than running 5100's. THey also would handle load better. Not sure about what he said above.

Yes. They are 14 13/16" collapsed, and 23 13/16" extended. Stock 3rd gen shocks are about this much shorter than stock 5th gen -

If you can read a tape, you can get the dimensions of the 3rd gen shocks from the following pics-

Nothing that bad. They handle wash board pretty good full. Empty a bit stiff. Hard to tell when my front ome are beating me to death.

Right on.
Man, that sounds miserable. I'm sure you've got your eye on nice adjustable coilovers, but I honestly can't recommend '99 tall coils with Tundra 5100 enough. My front end is so cush. For $300 total, you can't beat it. It's all preference- well, and driving style/terrain- but I like a soft, controlled ride. My 4Runner rides incredibly well and comfy to me.

The front shocks are too long but the coils and rear shocks will fit.

I do not. I even posted a thread in the 5th gen forum- a few months ago- requesting the collapsed/extended length and got no response. However, you should be able to get the extended length from my pics above. Looks like right at 23". From the info I can find online, it seems the collapsed length is around 14". Some guy posted a horrible pic of him measuring them, but he wasn't consistent with his tape at all. In his pics, the collapsed length looks like 15.5". I'm not even confident he was holding it fully collapsed.
