Flashing 4WD indicator light?

Anybody experience this? What did you do? Mine is doing it and I never engaged the selector, but I did have Bilstein's installed recently.

So its happening when you're not in 4wd? Mine flashed when I was in 4wd, it woudn't fully engage the 4low, kind of go in and out. Found out there were a couple pressure sensors that went bad. I'm not sure what it means if you haven't engaged 4wd.

Might be an issue with the selector/4WD system that is coming up even though you aren't in 4WD.

I to only get it when starting to go into 4WD basically it saying that it has not engaged.

I would get it checked out.

Maybe try cycling thru lock/unlock as the switch might be acting up because even though it has a manual shifter on the part time system ,there is a electric actuator called the A.D.D. on the front diff that actually locks in the front diff . A couple of people of had it stick in 4WD with the light flashing on here but I don't think they got back to what the problem was.
Plenty of sticky A.D.D. problems with the part time systems over on the FJ forum and get the flashing 4WD .

According to the dealer it is a speed sensor of some kind. Evidently it was damaged by the kind folks that installed my new Bilsteins. Dealer had to order the part, so I drive with the light flashing.

You know, if you could get them to be more specific and get it in writing, you might get said kind folks to either fix it or pick up the tab for it.

The wheel speed sensors would actually make your ABS, not 4wd light flash per the troubleshooting flowchart in the FSM, so please pardon my skepticism.

I did the exact same thing to hofs05 4runner he other week when I lifted it. I don't remember having to be so careful with my tacomas. Anyway it should just be the wiring harness. Not the abs sensor itself. I paid $60 for it but my buddy is a tech at the dealership. On her truck the abs and 4WD light were set off as well as the trac one too. Its an easy fix that will literally take 5 minutes as I watched my buddy do it in his bay.

Thankfully, they will fix it under warranty. The ABS is not flashing at all, but the Trac is steady (forgot to mention that earlier). Agreed, if this can be fixed manually, then WHY order the part? All of this is news to me, had no idea there were these sensors under there. Darn modern vehicles!

They would still need to order the part, usually not something they keep on hand.

I just had the 3" Boss installed and the ABS, traction control lights are on and 4WD light is flashing. Please tell me where to look to make the fix as it looks to be the same problem your friend had.

They stretched one of the ABS wires installing the lift. Or it simply failed when the crimp connection was removed on one of the brackets (if you had UCAs done). Either way... Wire is bad. Very common problem when installing a lift and not removing the wires first.

I just ordered both right and left harnesses for the ABS. I don't understand why the ABS affects the 4WD system. How are the hubs activated. I didn't see a vac line. Also didn't know the wires were so delicate. I loosened all of the stays but not the connectors, thought I wouldn't have a problem... I was wrong. Thanks for the help.

I would have checked the resistance of each wire before ordering...

ABS affects many systems on these trucks.

Toyota tends to light up the dash when just about anything goes wrong. You can't really trust which lights are on...

Got the ABS wires replaced and the 4WD and ABS lights are now out. I was only the drivers side that was broken, but I still replaced them both since I had the wire already. What a pain in the **** disconnecting all of the various connectors on these extensions... wow. The Skid light is still on, is this something to do with the yaw sensor? I thought I saw something about a way of resetting this by shorting two terminals on the OBD plug, but I can't find it now. Any ideas?
