Flashing Airbag Light on Tach

The airbag light on my tachometer is flashing. I don't really have much time to diagnose or repair, as I'm about to take the truck for a 2-week, 2,000+ mile driving tour of New England and New York state starting this weekend.

Is this a common issue? Typical source of the problem? If there is not a typical source I guess I'll have to bend over and get the dealer to run diagnostics.

Flashing airbag light means some sort of problem with airbag system. I _think_ this could disable the system from functioning depending on what the problem is, not positive on that but bad news for a 2k+ mile trip. You'll need to scan the code to see what's wrong, it could be any of a multitude of things.

Have you done any work on your truck recently that could have caused a malfunction somewhere? Did you change anything and then immediately notice the light flashing? If so, I'd start diagnosing there.

I did do the OME lift a couple of months back but ran several weeks afterward with no airbag light. I'm going to have to bite the diagnostic fee I guess. Thanks for response.

80% of time the driver's airbag light is caused by a bad clock spring. I just did the second clock spring on my 03 and, yes, the tach airbag light was on - at first intermittently and then more frequently. If you shop it right, you can find a new OEM clock spring for under $200. Install is easy. There are good write ups on the FJ forum. To get code you will need srs scanner. Local auto parts don't have those. Toyota scanners will give you four codes or so, clock spring being one of them. I'd just replace the clock spring. Odds are very high that this will solve your issue. Problem is likely very minor fray in one or more of the clock spring wires. Good luck.

Flashing you say? That's a bit odd, usually it stays solid...

But yeah, I'd pull the DTC from the SRS module when you get a chance (Clock Spring isn't a bad guess as they do wear out sometimes.) But basically at this point in time your vehicle has no airbags, relatively safe to drive, but you have no airbags.

Same symptoms as you mentioned. Blinked one day and sometimes not the next, but now it's constant blinking.
