flat black grill

I've asked opinions in other threads but it may have been overlooked...i have my wheels powdercoated flat black and they look great. Now i'm thinking about doing the same thing to the front chrome grill. What are your thoughts? Hard to invision w/out actually doing the deed. It's a 2006 titanium Sr5 by the way.

No opinions? My buddies think i should do it...but i'm hesitant. I put a lot of faith in your opinions. Should i just call it good and leave it chrome or go w/ a flat black for a tougher look??? Once i sand down that chrome there is no going back. The big chrome grill is my least favorite part of my T4R.

Go for it and post pics! I was thinking the same thing... the body color keyed grills look great, much better than my/your chrome grill. The flat back would look even better, IMO.

Call me crazy, but I love the look of rattle can flat black. Flat, matte, satin, whatever you call it.
I actually think of coating mine in truck bed liner. Sounds dumb perhaps, bu I think it'd look great, especially with a flat black bull bar and the already matte colored runners and roof rails already on the sport.

I have seen it done on a white 4R and I did not like the results. I think that painting it to match the body color would look better .

The color keyed grill looks way better.

I see that you have a Titanium Metallic like I do. I would just keep it, because the chrome on silver is very subtle.
 
I think it would look great having the wheels match the grille. I agree with the white it doesn't look that good but with the titanium paint I think it would be the perfect "rough" look.

If you do it we need some pictures!!! :D
 
Second the request for pics of the wheels in flat black. Are they the stock wheels? Cost to get them done?

oh and they are stock wheels...was 70/wheel...out the door. I had to paint the center caps as those could not be dipped to strip the paint. I used a flat primer, two coats, flat black, two coats, and flat clear, two coats...matches almost perfectly.
 
For those looking for black wheel pics they are in the powedercoated wheels thread...can't seem to move the pics over
 
after seeing the pic of the white runner w/ the black grill i'm going to do it. Need to wait till it warms up a bit...wife doesn't like me painting in the basement... I'm going to go flat instead of the gloss on the white 4R

Nice job with the wheels I did the same thing and am also looking to do the same flat black grill, I think its a great addition! The chrome grill does not look good when you are going for the sleeker look.

 
the wheels were powdercoated. My tire shop sent them off to be dipped and then powdercoated flat black. They gave me loaner wheels and tires while i waited. Took about a week. i did rattle can the center caps w/ flat black primer, flat black paint and flat clear coat to match the wheels
 
Well, messed around w/ the grill today and have decided to just paint the center portion...the center bar w/ the toyota symbol flat black. I think leaving a little chrome surround will look good considering my door handles are chrome and there is that chrome piece in the back above the license plate. Looks awesome right now w/ the center piece removed as it's just black behind that center piece. I'm priming right now...will post pics when all is done and installed. I think I'll get that tough custom look w/out doing the entire chrome surround. I'll let you folks be the judge once i'm done
