Flat tire

Sheesh everyone,
If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. 1st my original 2007 4runner gets rear ended at 1620 miles on the clock and now with just 1020 miles on my replacement 4runner and I get a flat tire from what appears to be a reflector from the freeway. You know the refecting turtles in the lane divider lines. Think I can get the state of Washington to replace the tire if it indeed is a reflector off the highway? And if so how would one go about it?

haha, thats an interesting idea. I would start with Washington's dept of highways and transportation...if there is indeed such an institution in your state. There is also the letter to the congressman...although that might be bit to high in the chain of command. ANyway, good luck with that, and DO let us know how that turns out.
 
Not sur if it can be fixed yet or not. The reflector/marker that went through the tread is about 3/4"x3/4"x1" trianular peice and that has made very big hole to say the least. It would take av ery big patch to fix it and I'd probable only want to use that tire for an emergency spare if it is fixable. I am going to find out 1st think this morning.
 
well at least there aren't many miles on the tire so you can just replace the one instead of having to replace both on each axle. How's that for a silver lining? :)
 
Well I'm outta luck in getting it fixed. Not sure what to do other than get a cheap spare and just use it as a spare in an emergency. Have not given up on the state thing but was told that sometimes that will work but you have to actually buy a replacement and hope for reimbursement.
 
I might be interested if it's a 18". I'll still have to wait on my friend who may be able to get it fixed for me on the sly (meaning I wouldn't hold them responcible) is the tire failed having such a big hole in it. Funny thing is I have 8 spare tires (4 new 275 ZR 40 17's) mounted on American Racing wheels that came off my Trans Am just sitting in my garage and now I need another tire. Those 4 tires have just 800 miles on them. I traded the TA in on the 1st 4runner. Can't be too cheap to ship a tire?

Check your owners manual on tire warranty. I had a runflat Dunlop replaced by the warranty on our van. It was a week old when I had a blow out on the freeway. I drove it to the dealer and was told I was SOL and a replacement was $350.00! I said F* that and went home and looked at my pamphlet that came with my van. Dunlop warranties their OEM tires for 12 months including roadside damage. A phone call later and they sent a replacement tire to Discount Tires (next day) and I rolled in and out for free. Who knows it might be worth a shot.
 
Does anyone here have a copy or can scan me a copy of their Michelin Tire warrantee. Or even read for me and let me know if there's some hazzard coverage. Mine a 2007. I somehow misplaced mine and have no clue whether or not the Michelin All Terrain tires have some kind of Road Hazzard coverage. I asked at my dealer and all they had was the Bridgestone tire warrantee booklet. It sure would be helpfull if I knew whether or not I might gt a replacement or pro rated price break from road hazzards. My daughter told me even her Kia has some hazzard coverages and she could not believe that Toyota would not have at least as good of coverage.
I sure would appriciate it,

Sorry bud I just looked at my booklet and road hazards are not covered for the Goodyear and Dunlops. Maybe you might get lucky on the Michelens. I would call anyway and see if they can make an exception considering how new your truck is. Dunlop was very nice to me in my case when they covered mine.

road hazards are never going to be covered under warrantee (the run flats are different if they dont run flat) or others if they blow out for no reason. The state also will not reimburse you, someone else probably already broke the reflector in order for it to stick up so that it would go into your tire. they wouldnt reimburse everyone who ran over things on the highway. They should be able to patch that and use it as a spare (dont use it as a regular tire with a patch) Ive had a bigger cut (about 2inx1inx1in) in my jeep tire that they patched and I used it as my spare until I got new tires, even running it normal use for about a week, it never leaked. Otherwise it looks like you are out of luck and will need a new tire. Flat tires happen to everyone.
 
If you do have to buy another tire buy the roadside warranty for a few bucks. This too have saved me in the past. I went years without a flat and then had 2 in a matter of months.

Here's Michelin's customer service number 1-866-866-6605. It wouldn't hurt to ask. Like the poster above said move your spare to the good wheel, patch this one and keep it or just buy a cheapy to keep as a spare tire. It will save you some money.

I think you would be SOL putting a claim in with the state but there too you never know until you try. I've heard of people being reimbursed for a kinds of strange stuff.

Years ago, back around 1989 I was able to get the City I lived in to pay for a rim and tire. I hit a pot hole, fortunatly I went back took a picture of it and had proof. It took about 90days to get my $$, but I did get it.

With the luck your having, trade the 4runner in for a different one. Your luck may change!

He already did! This is his second, first was totalled in an accident. Maybe 3rd times the charm? :p

I'll give Michelin a call for gigglews and hope for the best. I cannot blame Michelin for what happened to the tire but thought/hoped the was some kind of road hazzard with the purchase of a new vehocle. Some manufacturers have that on the tires that come with the original car. My buddy put a big patch on the tire and I'll just be using it for an emergency spare. SO if I use it as an emergency spare and not replace it the state won't even consider paying me back.
