You can see the 4th-gen rubber mats in this thread of Luxury's car here.

I have 2 sets of carpeted mats and one set of the rubber ones. I use the rubber ones in the winter or whenever there's rain (doesn't snow here) and the carpet ones when the weather is good. If you're looking for just one set, I'd say the rubber ones would be better since they're useful throughout the year.

thanks for the reply and advise. The rubber matts look good. I live in Indiana so really don't know what the weather will do the next day. Tomorrow I am going to the local dealer see if they will give me a good deal. Otherwise I am going to Chicago. Can't wait!
ThankS!

When I got my 03 LTD back in November it came with the Black Rubber Floor mats. The Dealer threw in a set of the grey carpet ones when I ask him too b/c I didn't think I would like Rubber ones. They are still in the plastic. The rubber mats look fine and do a great job of keeping the floor liner clean, dry and protected from water, snow, dirt , and salt. They clean up easy too. It's nice having both but if you have to pick one go with the rubber ones. I like them more than I thought I would.

Rubber ones keep your car clean throughout the seasons. It'll protect your carpet from turning ugly brown. These are expensive.

Carpet provides a nice and clean interior. I take out my rubber mats during the summer. These come with the car and its cheaper.

So cars/trucks/suvs come with carpeted floors, and just about everyone covers up the carpeted floors with mats. Is the carpeting just for looks, or does it help to dampen road noise and such? If this is the case, do carpeted floor mats help to dampen road noise even further? Do rubber mats dampen more or less?

I have carpet mats, and I like them. I just think it is a bit odd that in our cars we cover carpet with carpet in order to protect carpet that will never be seen. Make sense?

Its to protect the original carpet flooring. If you stain the original carpet on the car... how are you going to replace it? you can't without replacing all of it. So companies now provide floor mats made out of carpet to help owners like us. They don't help dampen road noise or anything of that sort.

Carpet is cheaper than rubber mat. (equal quality)

I feel you. It doesn't make much sense. Personally, I would be happier with a completely durable interior. I like the idea of an interior you can clean like the exterior. Maybe it is all warm and cozy and that does it for some owners? Or maybe, like iFORCE suggested, it is just a cost difference thing.

I just picked up a set from an online ebay dealer. It was the cheapest price I had seen for them.

I have always said that I wish Toyota made a 4th version of the 4Runner. One with out the carpets, fancy headliner, cloth seats, and all the other 'pretty' trimwork. Simple, durable interior which could be washed out easily. I bought the thing to use it off road on hunting/fishing trips, and am constantly worried about getting the inside dirty. But I guess it wouldn't appeal to many soccer moms.

:iagree: but soccer moms should want this feature.........mud in the soccer cleats............and kids = dirt a lot of times.......and less time to detail too. But, I bet they don't really think about that, only the warm and cozy part I hinted at before.

lemme tell ya...I LOVE my husky liners...here's why...the other day, I was getting out of the truck and went around to the front passenger area to pick up some take out I'd brought home. I took the food in and came back for the drink. well, I caught the corner of one of the styrafoam cups and the bottom ripped and basically the entire contents of the cup (it was a large one, too!) went straight down to the floorboard and into my husky liner. what'd I do? dipped a corner over the edge of the truck...pulled the liner out...hosed it off...tossed it in the sun on the driveway and mopped up the few splash drops that didn't make it in the liner.

best thing since sliced bread...ok, well maybe the 4runner's the best thing...husky liners are the next-to-best thing since sliced bread...

or to steal vandert's saying, "Holly Sheepshit Batman, its simply incredible!"

I just got my 2005 4Runner. I have Exactmats (clear mats that stay in place over the original carpet mats) in another vehicle and was thinking about them for my new ride. The all-weather rubber mats made by Toyota look good if you have a lot of ice or snow on your boots, but I am not sure how comfortable they would be for day-to-day use with those deep ridges. How do you find them in that respect? Clear, flat, Exactmats might do just as well to protect against a bit of occasional rain or mud.

You don't notice the ridges on the Toyota mats when you drive. However, I'd say they will be OK with a moderate amount of snow/mud. If you get lots of snow, then they may not be the mats for you.

Personally, I prefer the Toyota mats to Husky Liners. Was not happy with the fit or finish of the Husky Liners in my F150, and even less happy when Husky Liners acted like I was stupid for having a problem with their product and asking for their advice to fix the problem. They have a great idea, but my experience was poor execution.

There are other brands which members of this board have written about. Do a search -- Catch-All comes to mind as one brand that seems to be well-respected, too. It's certainly not the only one, though.

Of course, my experience and opinion. Worth every cent you paid for it! :D

I got the carpet mats when purchased the vechicle. The other day though I saw some rubber mats at SAMS club for $20. For the front and rear seats and they weight about 25 lbs. They look ok and are heavy duty but can't beat the price.
