Yeah, stuff happens.
It is probably steeper than it looks. I am not sure what the driver was trying to do though. Wheels point the wrong way but who knows. Wonder about load range on those KO2s and whether they were aired down (I presume so).
There may be a hole not visible on the pic. In 2018 at least three vehicles, including an FJ, flopped on the Black Bear Pass, on a mild looking section that had developed one 2ft drop. Apparently, those three drivers failed to notice.
I did a mountain trail yesterday and chose the rocks over the tilted ways around them except once and yelled at myself as I got more tilted than I wanted. For me, Subaru habits still need to die completely. For this person, no idea what happened, but for all their capability 4x4s are not terribly stable.
Thanks for posting, it is a good reminder how easily things can go wrong.

Apparently Wells thought the fire road was more worthwhile than the trail version.

Yes, thanks, the comments are what they are, except a couple, but the picture from the front posted by one of the commenters explains it all:
It is steep. The driver seems to have tried to avoid the rut and got too far to the pax side. It does point to inexperience. There seems to be nothing worth avoiding either, to be honest.

Agreed that the op is a dick. Without actually talking to the driver it's hard to know if he was trying to pose for a pic or if it was straight up inexperience. A little bump of the go pedal might have prevented the flop.

Well, he is right, so long as the wheels point the right way. In this case, if wheels were really pointing uphill pax side, the outcome would have only been worse.
THIS is what scares me about ruts. I agree that THIS can really happen to anyone.

As much as it pains me to say this but Cleghorn offshoots arent for the average Joe. There are some sketchy parts that look like you can handle it but requires at least some experience. Cleghorn has become overrun within the past few years and I personally do not go there anymore because there are so many people that go there. Groups of 20+ rigs start the trail without breaking up the group. This cloggs up the trail and youre just idling there for hours. There are spots there that gave me some pucker moments but experience with off-camber situations is a must. I will admit, I'm not the most experienced in technical trails, but I always walk something if it even looks at the slightest difficult to asses my line.
Also, the last time I went forest services kept a tight eye on our group telling us offshoots are "off limits" for the time being. We were only 4 rigs, but 3 more rigs were pretty much stock and asked if they could follow us. We told them of course they can but if they do not feel confident for any offshoot, dont do it.

Sad, hope driver and passengers are OK and is able to recover the rig.
This is literally my ultimate fear and i'm sure for most folks on here... As everyone said, sh$t happens.
However, if we can all learn from this, that would give back to the community.
I dont understand the "CLICK" acronym as originally posted, as I'm sure most of us are not shot gunning every trail run without some level of analysis.
IMHO, most of the Cleghorn shoot off's are probably the most challenging terrain I've been on, second to Chicken Rock at Death Valley.. Some of those dips are nasty.
This is literally my ultimate fear and i'm sure for most folks on here... As everyone said, sh$t happens.
However, if we can all learn from this, that would give back to the community.

Well judging by the photo a 5 year old was the spotter. So that might explain it.
Joking aside a similar thing happened a few years ago on Black Bear Pass. 5th gen 4Runner as well. Some of the experts on here roasted him too.

If you haven't flopped a dedicated trail rig - you're probably not really trying. Flopping a daily is an expensive proposition.

dont just assume stuff, i highly doubt that a 5 y/o was a spotter.
if that trail intertwines with a much easier trail, it may be worth it to put signage on the trail informing people. although, you are responsible for your vehicle and its condition the second you get in it. if no one was ever in danger (aside from the body of the vehicle); i dont see what the big deal is here. someone learned an expensive lesson that day.
