This is a problem way beyond a voting base. They can’t agree on immigration, try gun control......Columbine was 1999, so sad but what has changed? If you deal with someone or work in the mental health field you will see there is not much support out there. This kid fell through every crack and there was no help for him. I am in no way defending him, but it is a perfect example of a failed system. So more guns are not the answer but it kinda makes sense until measures are put in place....and wtf would those measures be? No bump stop? No assault rifles?? What is that? It painting over rust and a politicians lame excuse to get noticed.

Why can an 18 year old, with a history of violent tendencies and who MANY suspected would be the type to shoot up a school, purchase a gun, of any kind much less an AR. In fact why should any 18yr old be able to purchase an AR, they can’t even purchase booze. Man I hope we bring back the AR ban....

I certainly don’t speak for everybody here, but I don’t think people are trying to ban guns. But I don’t see a reason why you need a bump stock, a 30rd magazine, or why somebody needs an AR style weapon in general.

I hear you, and agree to a point that a good guy with a gun saves lives. But, I think there’s very real problems that most pro gun crowd folks either reject to consider or don’t think about at all. And I’ll freely admit, my viewpoint could be considered heavily stereotyped.

I tend to think of CCW holders as dudes who think they’re navy seals or something. Watch a couple YouTube videos, but the right gear, grow a beard, and they’re good to go. And the truth is, most gun owners are just not trained well enough to defend others. Everyone wants to be a hero. Especially dudes with a CCW. But in a mass shooting event, if a dude with a weapon acts to do the the right thing, there’s in increased risk to bystanders with more rounds flying through the air. With heightened adrenaline, good guys with guns are just as likely to rush into a situation and falsely identify others with guns as bad guys. The police as well.

I’m not anti-CCW. And I would want a good guy with a gun in, God forbid, a situation like that. I’m just arguing that a weekend warrior who shoots a 100rds at a target every few weeks is probably not ready for a dynamic event like countering a mass shooter. Additionally, the majority of America doesn’t need some of the crazy weapon systems that you can buy.

The AR gets so much bad press when in reality it's no different than any other semi automatic centerfire rifle. It's biggest downfall is that it looks scary, the news media loves to flash images of it, and its a wildly popular item in both real life, movie, and video game cultures.

It's often times referred to as the modern musket in gun circles... Its such a common item that it's like saying the Honda Civic is responsible more for deaths than a Ferrari. There just happens to be way more Civics on the streets to support that statistic. On top of that, no one NEEDS a car that can do 200+ mph... but I can get one tomorrow and drive it like an ******* if I really wanted to.

And as the the crazy guy who decided to shoot up a concert from a Vegas hotel... thank goodness he wasn't actually a real practiced marksman. Just a lunatic with some bolt on accessories. I know it's jacked up to say, but the outcome could have been a lot worse with grandpas wooden hunting rifle in the right hands.

People who want to do damage always find a way. People being the key word.

I honestly could not imagine being a parent in the day and age... when I hear about shit like this. This isn't the type of shit I would want to worry about after dropping my kid off at school.

Something in our culture and society is broken… the media displaying the days of fame for these killers doesn’t help, Hollywood doesn’t help, internet and the way information moves doesn’t help, the way bullying happens now though social media doesn’t help. Hell we pull out the popcorn anytime there is a police chase on TV. I don’t know what the answer is, but it’s bigger than just any one thing. Maybe Elon Musk can solve it… he can just about figure out anything.

You can find cars for a couple hundred bucks that run just fine. Probably easier than finding a semi-auto rifle. He probably already had one. But lets blame the instruments, not mental health. How do you propose we make all guns cost more? Used and new.

To be honest I hesitantly hit "Submit Reply" on my post, because I knew it was a bit outrageous. I wasn't trying to write off the harm that was caused, and what happened in Vegas was a tragedy.

The only point I was trying to make was if a person wanted to do real harm, they could. He would have found many other tools to cause harm.

My comments about needs and a car example was to highlight that "line"... you don't need a car that can do faster than the speed limit, yet they still make them.

I read into topics about gun control all the time, both side make very valid points. I truly don't know what the answer for guns are in our culture.

I agree with that... I don't think weapons should be easily obtainable...

Background checks and systems that are connected. Agency entities that communicate.

I forgot the exact incident, but there was a guy from the military who was discharged and a prohibited person, but he was still able to buy.

People on the no-fly list are able to buy.

Background checks are only as good as the information in the computer system. It's the system that needs a revamp as it's already illegal to kill people.
