Florida School Shooting

Thanks for quoting my entire post. I hope others do it again and again for each page.

There is no link between video games and school shootings. Sorry but some folks thinking a link exists doesn't make it true.

Here's a link between the violence and shooting... the kid killed small animals for fun and sounds like a complete sociopath. He was also on the school shooting team.

I forgot to enter "insert sarcasm here" with my post.

Cruz, Lanza, Kelly, and Paddock were hunters too. No different than you. Same rights. Same passion. Slightly different twist.

#NRAFail

All this winning is exhausting.

we don’t hunt people, NONE of them are NRA members by the way and all vote democrat with the exception of cruz who did not vote

Are those external hemroids why your so angry? or is it that you can’t do anything about muh evil guns and all this trump winning

Whose fault is it?

36 times the police went to his house
FBI was warned twice
Students joked he would shoot up the school. How sad is that
Some clueless guardians that let him have a gun? Or not up his ass like a parent/guardian should be knowing the kid has issues.

And not one person went the extra mile or even an inch to look closer.
Gun laws? How about good ole investigating/parenting by the guardians
Gun laws can’t fix plain old stupid

Exactly!!!!! This is what I meant by better “management” of those with possible, probable, or documented mental issues.

We agree

Here is an example of stupid.....I have to be fingerprinted in my line of work, I also coach little league which requires fingerprinting. Those 2 data bases are not linked. We cannot even get that right. I coach with a police officer who has to carry a gun for his line of work.....He has to be fingerprinted to coach baseball. Is it a money grab? Lazy? or just plain stupid that they can't link two basic computer data bases. We cry out for laws for everything and blame the government every time something goes wrong. The fault lies with us who vote and don't demand change.

Then essentially you are saying if the community of people around dangerous individuals can't be trusted in our "I'm minding my own business" and/or "incompetent" world, then you need to resort to limiting/regulating the access to guns. No? If not, what's your point? What solution, even partial, are you suggesting?

Point is

WTF was a gun law going to do when the red flags where just glanced over. You don't need gun laws you need common sense. Someone should have seen something was wrong. The kid should have been in a facility getting treatment. How clueless where the guardians... I am a parent, step in and help the kid.
I have guns, support the NRA, stop making this about gun control. There is no way anyone was watching this kid. So when the police and the FBI failed, there where his guardians that failed even worse. Do you know how much worse a sawed off shotgun would have been? AR15 is not the issue nor is a bump stop. You cannot regulate guns, cause if someone wants one they are going to find it...Just ask your local criminal, he can get whatever he wants. This kid acquired his gun legally because there was nothing in any data base that showed 2 FBI and 36 police tips. How about lets see if the kid ever applied for a gun we have been to house 36 times or maybe the FBI should have thought about that...

NJ has very strict gun laws already, Penn and Florida are more lax, not sure about other states. So depends upon where you live. I am already subject to some tough laws. If i moved to Penn. or Florida I could get a carry permit, no way in NJ. BB gun is illegal in Jersey.

Hikenbike is this 5ft tall little man who has a butthole full of external hemorrhoids according to his account on healthboards. He is hateful, a democrat, not a member of the NRA, low IQ, and for gun free zones. That is a recipe for trouble according to data collected from previous shootings

Not sure if your posed question was one you really wanted an answer to, but there are laws around it. there are what is called reporting and non reporting agencies. an example is if you report earnings for example under the table earnings to social security they are not legally allowed to report that to the IRS, but the IRS can share data with social security. or if one of these agencies has a 1040 with an address on it that someone filed last week for example they can't share that info with the FBI, even if there's a warrant out for their arrest. if comes down to a reasonable expectation of privacy some "act" basically a law that was passed years ago for our protection that during the Bush administration they tried to overturn along with a lot of 4th amendment rights in reaction to terror acts.

this all came about around the founding of the department of homeland security which used to be a bunch of different isolated agencies that they put under the umbrella of homeland for the purpose of increased information sharing. the whole thing is mind numbing if it wasn't so infuriating. we basically help criminals hide. if you work for an agency and wanted for example to make an anonymous tip to a law enforcement agency like the FBI, you could actually lose your job. That's right boys and girls if you tell agency A you're cooking meth and they tell on you THEY get in trouble, and it's for your protection, welcome to America!!

Got it. The FBI failed here....but they can’t track every kid in America. I agree, more importantly, that the community around this kid failed badly........and others are failing around other kids RIGHT NOW.......the next shooter is probably preparing right now for a new event in the near future. So what’s the plan to first define (and get agreement) and then establish “common sense” across the land of everyone across every region, race, color, and creed?

I’d bet about 50% of guardians or parents are at least to some extent not paying enough attention.....probably 30% grossly so if you really dove deep. The idea of “family” has broken down to a great extent in so many ways and for many reasons economically, morally, and ethically.

You’re NOT fixing the “family” in our lifetime........so something has got to give. Somewhere, some how, on some level, liberties or freedoms as we know them today need to be reasonably limited/modified/scaled back somehow like airports needed to infringe on peoples rights while fully maintaining people’s right to bear arms. There’s got to be a middle ground and compromise. Additional measures will not eliminate threats or all future mass shootings but if it has any impact then that’s a major step in the right direction.

Problem is, people are looking for THE answer and there isn’t one. Start with SOMETHING, if it has impact, then embrace it and try to build on it (this is where many would go stupidly overboard and say “yeah sure, until they take our guns”) If it has no impact, ditch it fix it. Better to try and fail then to not have tried at all. Right now, we’re not even remotely trying.

Have states with stricter gun laws (like NJ) been having the same mass shooting problem as other states ?

I have to chime in because this issue has gotten me so fired up over the last few days, especially seeing dumbasses both from the left and right trying to push their stupid agendas all over social media.

I like guns, I grew up with guns and know they are to be respected. I believe every American has the right to protect themselves through the second amendment, but I do not think anyone should ever need an AR-15 for personal protection. Who the hell do you think you are, Pablo Escobar? We have to come together as a country and acknowledged that there is a real problem that needs to seriously be address before we become so numb that this becomes a normality (in ways it already has). A lot has changed in our society since 1791, and I think our gun laws should reflect these changes. The second amendment was meant to be malleable, originally meant to give people the right to defend themselves from a tyrannical government. Does anyone with any sense really think that their little stock pile of weapons is going to save them from a modern military takedown!? They have goddamn Apache Helicopters and grenades...

What I think should happen is that we revisit what having a license is and isn't and installing different levels of licenses that people can apply for. For instance, if you want a small handgun for personal protection, you apply for license A. If your purchase is for hunting, you apply for license B. If you feel like you need something like an AR-15, you apply for license C and accept that you will be closely monitored on an annual basis. I love fast cars, but I can't legally drive a race car on the street due to the safety of others, but I can get a special license to drive on on a track... This is a responsibility you have to accept if you want to own a race car, why can't it be similar for guns?

The whole argument about arming teachers is another thing... Education is continuously being stripped of resources in this country every year. Most schools can barely afford pencils and ink toner, let alone glocks. Teachers shouldn't have to take on that responsibility, they deal with enough. Protecting schools should be the responsibility of local government. How about asking our government to take a small fraction of the $300 billion dollar military budget or the budget for a pointless wall and apply it to better security in schools, apply programs designed to better evaluate student mentality and give them the proper help they need earlier on so that we can identify and avoid potential threats?

Nothing will ever be done in this country until we come together and have a sensible conversation, not as Democrats, not as Republicans, as Americans who want to fix a problem. Until then... Thoughts & prayers...

SCOTUS has already ruled, as recently as the Chicago case, that US citizens have a right to own a firearm and the state cannot use licensing or extreme limitations to prevent that ownership.

What you are talking about with a license would require a constitutional amendment.

The RIGHT of owning a pistol or rifle to protect one's home isn't like driving a car which is something that is NOT a right but rather an action the state allows you to do.

Gun licensing isa novel concept if we were rebuilding from scratch today. Personally I would be against it. Even now the state uses "gun licensing" to prevent law abiding citizens like me from obtaining a CCA, in effect permanently keeping a CCA out of good citizens hands. Those are the rules of most California sheriff's offices.

Have you seen Waiting For Superman? It's a great documentary about the schools in America and you might be surprised by how much we actually spend on students. Throwing money at every problem isn't a guaranteed fix.

Reality is there will always be guns in America. Given reality, We will always need a ''good guy'' with a gun to counter the bad guy. Some see the Police as the good guy, some see the Army as the good guy and I see Myself as a good guy with a gun. Let the Feds place an armed officer in every school, and allow any Teacher who submits to certification carry as well if they choose. I want my school, church and Public places to be occupied by Good guys with guns. Nobody should be hiding in the back of a Room hearing gun shots coming down the hall and knowing there won't be a good guy coming in time to help. This could and HAS happened with any run of the mill 9mm handgun....no AR required so the talk of ''Assault Rifles'' is a distraction from Reality. There are all the laws needed already on the books and once again the Police and FBI failed to execute those laws. Start using what we have, and allow a Good guy to be present. Gun Free zones are a deadly joke in a land where criminals ignore Law....that is why they are Criminals after all.:usa2:

I was trying to get at licensing the level of firearm that you wish to own. Someone owning a small hand gun shouldn't be put on the same playing field as someone with an AR-15. I just personally think gun owners should accept greater responsibility if they want to protect their right to own and keep things like assault rifles out of the hands of unstable people who are potential threats to others. Of course licensing only isn't going to fix the problem. This is a multi-faceted problem that goes beyond gun control. The point is that we at least try to have a conversation and fix the problem.

I have not, it looks good and I'll have to check it out.
