WTF was a gun law going to do when the red flags where just glanced over. You don't need gun laws you need common sense. Someone should have seen something was wrong. The kid should have been in a facility getting treatment. How clueless where the guardians... I am a parent, step in and help the kid.
I have guns, support the NRA, stop making this about gun control. There is no way anyone was watching this kid. So when the police and the FBI failed, there where his guardians that failed even worse. Do you know how much worse a sawed off shotgun would have been? AR15 is not the issue nor is a bump stop. You cannot regulate guns, cause if someone wants one they are going to find it...Just ask your local criminal, he can get whatever he wants. This kid acquired his gun legally because there was nothing in any data base that showed 2 FBI and 36 police tips. How about lets see if the kid ever applied for a gun we have been to house 36 times or maybe the FBI should have thought about that...
NJ has very strict gun laws already, Penn and Florida are more lax, not sure about other states. So depends upon where you live. I am already subject to some tough laws. If i moved to Penn. or Florida I could get a carry permit, no way in NJ. BB gun is illegal in Jersey.
Got it. The FBI failed here....but they can’t track every kid in America. I agree, more importantly, that the community around this kid failed badly........and others are failing around other kids RIGHT NOW.......the next shooter is probably preparing right now for a new event in the near future. So what’s the plan to first define (and get agreement) and then establish “common sense” across the land of everyone across every region, race, color, and creed?
I’d bet about 50% of guardians or parents are at least to some extent not paying enough attention.....probably 30% grossly so if you really dove deep. The idea of “family” has broken down to a great extent in so many ways and for many reasons economically, morally, and ethically.
You’re NOT fixing the “family” in our lifetime........so something has got to give. Somewhere, some how, on some level, liberties or freedoms as we know them today need to be reasonably limited/modified/scaled back somehow like airports needed to infringe on peoples rights while fully maintaining people’s right to bear arms. There’s got to be a middle ground and compromise. Additional measures will not eliminate threats or all future mass shootings but if it has any impact then that’s a major step in the right direction.
Problem is, people are looking for THE answer and there isn’t one. Start with SOMETHING, if it has impact, then embrace it and try to build on it (this is where many would go stupidly overboard and say “yeah sure, until they take our guns”) If it has no impact, ditch it fix it. Better to try and fail then to not have tried at all. Right now, we’re not even remotely trying.
Have states with stricter gun laws (like NJ) been having the same mass shooting problem as other states ?
