Flowmaster 40 series vs. Super 40

trying to decide on which muffler i want on my 98 and i think i have it down to the Flowmaster 40 series and the super 40 but is there a real difference? is there any comments you can make about ether and which one you suggest on my 3.4l. i had dual 40's on my 84 chevy c10 and i loved them but i realize they aren't gonna sound as good on a v6.

iv'e tried youtube and the sound quality on all the videos are shit so any help would be great and if you have a different setup on your rig that you like, please share.

40 series are going to be loud and drone big time. But you are young and might not care. The Super has the delta flow and special 'coating' that is supposed to cut that down but I have not heard or seen it in person. The regular does not have this technology. If it were me and those were my only two choices especially in the 40 series I'd get the super to help eliminate any drone.

Exhaust is all personal preference but I think the Borla XR1 is a better choice .
 
Between those two I would go with the Original 40. Difference is super 40 is quiter in the cab. I'm running the super 10 and it sounds great. It is only a little bit louder than the 40.

I had the super 40 on my automatic 98. Now I have the original 40 on my 5 speed. The original 40 does not sound as deep in my opinion. I kind of miss my super 44 but not enough to replace the 40 I have now.

Is there a Super 40 and a Super 44? Not trying to be a jerk here, just curious. I've considered changing out my18" Magnaflow wanna-be muffler for a Flowmaster...but I'm not a huge fan of in-cab drone. If the Super 40 (or 44?) had the deepest tone, I'd be inclined to try it out.

do you notice any drone with the 40 series on your runner, and if so is it bad? and i'm going for more of a deep tone, I've notice to many of theses trucks that sound like ricers and i think flowmaster is the way to go, never had problems with em before.
 
I agree with the other observation. I would put a Magnaflow on the exhaust for a better and smoother sound and the longevity of the Magnaflow outweighs the Flowmaster exhaust.

It is very minimal. If it does drone, it is not enough to bother me. I do not like the ricer sound out of trucks either.
 
Not deafening at all- seems to make the most drone around 1800 RPM. Highway cruising at 65 MPH is above 2000 RPM and not as droning somehow. I actually enjoy the sound and can tell how fast I'm going based on exhaust noise. You will certainly have to blast your radio more than you're used to if you want to completely drown out the muffler.

The only time I sometimes feel bad is accelerating through quiet neighborhoods as the truck can seem loud, but it's a gas guzzling (and highly capable) SUV not a Prius- in my opinion it should be loud.
 
I run a supper 44 and it has a tone to it but not bad. I really do not even hear it over the tires anyhow. I like mine.

oh that doesn't sound too bad, i just don't want it to be hella annoying on the freeway. thanks for the help man!

ive heard a couple ive liked, and i think my friend has a 40 series on his 2nd gen with a 3.0 which sounds pretty good. im actually up north quite a bit towards burlington

does anyone have any recommendations on a tip? im looking for a double-wall rolled tip but not sure on the outlet size. i think a 3" outlet would look good. so far this is the best one i could find for a decent price-

If u plan on doing ANY wheeling then no tip. In fact cut the exhaust just behind the axel before the frame. Otherwise you crush it. If it's a street rig then a tip is more appropriate.
