This is my '07 Limited 4.0L now at 196K miles, bought last year as a fixer-upper with 164K miles, a crappy maintenance history, and stretched timing chain. I replaced the chains/sprockets/tensioners/guides last Summer and cleaned the valve covers and timing cover, flushed out the oil sump while the timing cover was off.
I've been running Quaker State or Pennzoil synthetic 5W-30 and changing early at 2K-3K intervals, finding lots of sludge flecks in the oil filter every time.
Last night's oil change was the usual: passenger side front & back on ramps to tilt the engine w/ the drain plug at lowest point.
This time after draining was done, I put a paper towel over the drain pan and pumped a few ounces of fresh oil (leftover Royal Purple Racing 21) down the dipstick tube on the high side of the engine. Thinking was that the oil would wash down the floor of the pan, across the pickup screen indent, and out the drain plug on the low side.
The first flush pushed out old brown oil and a few spoonfuls of sludge flecks as shown in the pics. I changed paper towels and repeated, this time fresh purple oil came out with more sludge flecks. It took 4 flushes before it stopped pushing sludge. Surprising, and I'll keep doing this at oil changes to see if there's more being broken up.
