FN Five Stars 17" installed and build thread

Hey guys, I've owned my rig for about 10 months now, and it was due for new tires, I decided to switch the wimpy 20" wheels for 17" Five Stars in gun metal with KO2 275/70/17 right now the truck is still on stock height, and only rubs on full lock in reverse, however I will be adding the 2" leveling kit this week.

Other things added:
FJ Factory steel 17" wheel for spare with matching tire
Black out of front grill
Black fog light bezel
HID Kit Headlights/Fog Lights

At home waiting to be installed:
Black tail gate trim
Trail edition black housing head lights
LED Lights all around

Big difference.

Looks good, but I would flip the white letters to the inside. BFG is one of the only tires I have seen that still does the 80s thing.
 
I actually enjoy the white letters, the whole truck should be de-chromed in a few weeks and then if they stand out too much i'll switch them but thus far I like it like this better.
 
Nice! Clean looking wheel.

When I looked at their site they only showed them in 16" ???
What are the specs of the 17?
Do you know if they are hub centric?(assume they are)

Pretty sure it's all the same as their countersteer x's.

Just search 17" FN Fivestar in the search bar, and it should take you to their ad page in the classified section.

One thing doesn't quite make sense to me. The Load Rating is 2100 pounds (per wheel). It's easy to get the truck up on two opposite wheels when off-roading whenever the vehicle rolls over two high spots on opposite corners of the car. I've done it in my old Jeep GC without locking diff's and been stuck.
So if the truck sits on two wheels balanced on its corners, the load to each wheel is around 2350# without any cargo. More if there is cargo and more if you consider that 55% of the load goes to the front wheels.

Do I understand the load rating correctly?
 
My wife and i decided to take a little vacation to the blue ridge mountains in Georgia, and we had such a blast, first time putting the T4R thru the paces and i just have to say I LOVE this thing., after years of struggs offroad with dodge, ford etc, its nice to enjoy an outing withyhVing to stress if we will "make it"

I'm not an expert on this or anything, but if I was to take a wild guess the rating doesn't take into account the tires attached to the rim and the weight they disburse/distribute. I'd also venture to guess the load rating on this is equal or greater than your stock rim. I can't verify that though. Hopefully someone will chime in and correct me or fill in the gaps.

AND I even if the vehicle was up on two wheels like a bicycle, I think the rims are the least of your worries :tea:

Now to find that video of the some Saudi's driving an FJ on two wheels while climbing all over the car...

It rubs a bit on the front when you are going in reverse full lock. I'll be doing the leveling kit soon hopefully
 
Looks good, totally forget you had the gunmetal 5 star. Was debating to go with the gunmetal or bronze just to be different since my current and last was black. I dig the black on Magnetic gray but the FN 5star seems to be too black and the design of the wheels doesn't stand out as much. Maybe because the black face sink in more, creating more shadow or illusion of being darker then it is. I do like the bronze a tad more but not sure it will go with Magnetic gray.

Same dilema I was in, I love bronze wheels, but in the end I felt the gunmetal was a bit more "adult" looking, and since I drive with clients all the time that made me decide.

If I didn't use this truck for work, itd have bronze wheels 285s and a 3inch lift

Its hard to notice much of a difference, these tires do have a little bit of road noise (nothing obnoxious, or that anyone else will notice) and you can feel bumps a bit more, but again, nothing anyone else will notice.

However even with those two observations, the truck feels 10000x better than it did stock, the factory 20s are just terrible, they remove any identity this trucks are supposed to have, the wheels (and tires) are too narrow, which looks terrible, makes the truck feel like 70s cadillac in turns, and makes it useless offroad.

Sure it feels more "trucky" now, but I'm ok with that, and I actually enjoy it A LOT more, I personally like having vehicles that you know what they are good for the moment you see them, and drive them, and the t4r does that NOW. If I wanted it an SUV that feels like a car I would have bought a durango or an explorer.
